I put my phone on silent when I'm in a theater or meeting. After last update, it now rings when call comes in and makes notification sound for incoming texts. I don't want to shut phone off. What is my alternative? This never used to occur.

You can turn your notification noises off by swiping down on the top of your phone screen. Click on the button next to your volume slider. When it has jagged lines and a line across the speaker, it will be on vibrate. If the button is greyed out, it is on silent. If the button has two lines next to it and the backdrop of the button is white, it is on loud.

You can also customize your notifications for individual apps in your settings. Go to Settings >> Notifications >> Notification Sounds (Sounds and Vibrations) and from there you can freely customize your notifications.

You can also use theater mode for meetings (it should be preconfigured on your phone), or create a mode called "meeting mode" and set the parameters for silencing what needs to be silenced. Once you turn that mode off, your phone will return to normal. Just plain old do not disturb works, too (unless you have it set to let certain calls and notifications through).

You can still put your phone on vibrate, just hold the volume down button until it goes to vibration. Most people were complaining that they did not like that they couldn't use to button to go past vibrate to mute with the button push. You want your phone to vibrate, so you are in luck, it still works. I don't understand what you have against theater (or any mode) - it's a quick way to set your volume/notification parameters when you don't want noise. You can configure it any way you want - in the example above, just turn sound mode and volume to vibrate instead of mute.

There are many paths up the mountain. Use the one you like best.

is the doorbell your default notification or ringtone? Have you checked the volume panel to make sure all the volume sliders are down and the phone is actually on vibrate? Your phone should not make any sound at all when you have it set to vibrate. Is this a recent occurrence? Have you cleared your phone's cache partition?

Did you recently download any app that may cause the sound settings to be overridden? Activated any accessibility settings? You can download Good Lock's Nice Catch module to see if the sound is coming from a rogue app.
