Contacts version 15.7.54.2 unique identifier for subcontacts under main contact

I have a main contact for which I have a photo and I also have other contacts under the main contact with their own phone number & email address. When I send or receive a group message from these contacts I am unable to identify from whom it is coming unless I go through hoops. Therefore, I want to assign a separate color or photo to the subcontacts so I always know by sight the individual contact. Is this possible?

@Javablood Can you provide more information on what you mean with a "main" contact and other contacts under the main contact? A screenshot or two may help.

S24 Ultra here running one UI 8.5 beta. My contacts version number is 16.2.00.81 and the contact storage version is 15.8.31. I have gone through every setting and subsetting in the contacts app and cannot find anything about sub contacts. Could that be the problem?

The fields I get when entering a new contact are, in descending order: Name, Phonetic name, Nickname, Phone, Email, Groups, Work info, Adress, Important dates, Relationships, Notes, Website.

Regardless of the fields, is there a way to assign a separate color or photo to the subcontacts under the main contact so I always know by sight the individual contact?

One can assign multiple phones numbers under a contact and customize the name other than mobile, home, work, etc. Yet can one assign a separate color or photo to the different phone numbers? That is the question!

If you are using the Samsung Members app, press on the + to the left of the text entry box to add a screenshot.

It seems you after using a 3rd party app. To determine which app you are using, long click on the icon. Click on the small circled i. Scroll to there bottom and take a screenshot.

Okay, I called them subcontacts yet as I stated in my previous reply they are different phone numbers. So, can one assign a separate color or photo to the different phone numbers within that contact?

There is no way to color code the individual numbers that you have for a contact.

Yet in Google messages, there is a different color for a different number! However, not always the case!

Why not just make separate contacts instead of sub contacts? It would uncomplicate things.

The additional number fields in a contact card are meant for if a single contact has multiple numbers, not to add everyone in a family or company contact directory.

Oh, trust me, I thought of that. However, I did think that maybe Contacts could be a little smarter to be able to include multiple contacts under a single contact, e.g., family members, which is what I want to do. Thanks.

Suit yourself, but the only way to have separate pictures and separate names in texts is to have separate contacts. Did you know you can make contact groups?

Yes, I did, yet one still has to have the folks in the group as separate contacts to distinguish between the members. Thank you.
