Display / backlight issue after One UI 7 update

Ever since the latest UI update, there appears to be a display / backlight issue where the top left notification bar will flash white, and the backlight on the left side of the screen will increase with it. It started as short flashes, but now it lasts for several minutes. It happens in all applications and the home screen. I've restarted the phone multiple times and the problem persists.

You might think, but I haven't dropped it recently. Also I don't think it's a coincidence that the white area aligns exactly with the new notification bar.

Access recovery mode in your phone, if the screen is still weird, then it is more likely it is broken

Hm yep it persists in recovery mode. Ho hum, my screen's broken I guess. Fascinating that it happened at the same time as the big software update.

Were you able to find any fix, I have the same issue

I turned off motion smoothness under display settings to standard and it was fixed

also called "Backlight Bleeding". I found a youtube video from 2023 with the same Display Smoothing fix. The issue only occurs infrequently on my phone, it has to be a software issue or the smoothness fix wouldnt work. its still a pretty strange problem since it only started sometime after my last system update July 1, 2025
