S22 Ultra unlocked still no Android 15 update

Why can I not get the android 15 on my S22 Ultra unlocked phone?

I've been checking and checking for updates and still nothing.

@user2V9N7o45kB What is the model name of your S22 Ultra? Does it end in "U"? Go to phone settings -> About phone.

Where did you get the phone? and have you changed carriers?

Yes, it does. When I paid for the phone, I was told that it would automatically be unlocked in 30 days, that was about 2 years ago. I have contacted the Provider where I purchased the phone from to verify that it is unlocked and they said yes. I'm no longer with them and am with a new carrier that also told me that since I brought my own phone, it would not be locked....

Your phone has the original carrier's firmware installed. Now that you are on a different carrier and have that SIM installed, your phone will look on the current carrier's update servers for an update. But it will look for an update for the firmware installed on your device. It will never find original carrier's firmware on current carrier's network.

I still have the original carrier's sim. If I put that back in, will it update since the sim still works?

@user2V9N7o45kB That should work as long as you check for the update over wifi with the original SIM installed.

Wow, this is going to take a while. Apparently the carrier I have now, does not believe in updating security or anything else...... I'm now on the 3rd update which is 33 and now have UI 6.1 and also now security update number 34. I wonder how many more there is going to be before I can get Android 15......

@user2V9N7o45kB It has nothing to do with your current carrier. It is because of the firmware from the original carrier.

Yes, you can go to an authorized service center and they will flash the software for you.

Alternative is you can flash the official software yourself using Odin. There are many videos on YouTube on how to do this.

Most are small and shouldn't take to long until you get to Ui7. That one is huge.

You will still need to have the firmware for your provider flashed onto your device so you don't have to keep putting in the old Sim.

Not sure if I really want to do that though. AT&T are horribly known for their lack of updating android versions...

It's probably been about 9 years or so when we were with AT&T and it was always a nightmare. At least that is what I experienced... We switched to Verizon and all was great for a few years but then started experiencing dropped calls a lot. A sales rep for AT&T happen to come by and we got a sweet deal bringing our own phones, plus a discount on the fiber optics internet I had with them already. Couldn't pass it up...

Alright, finally, Android 15 and UI7 all installed. Thank you LongHiker and Robin621k for all the help... 🙂 And sim switched back out. All is working!

Wow, just discovered something interesting. My primary sim is actually an eSim 1 which is the AT&T. Sim 1 has the inserted sim, but it is turned off. When I turn it on, my phone shows 2 wifi connections and if I turn the esim off and reboot it comes up Verizon and i can get the updates, without replacing sims. Turn one on and the other off and I'm connected to the correct carrier which for me is AT&T... So what it boils down to is I can check for updates on both carriers without changing sims... 😄
