I have a Galaxy S22u and I read an article that talked about Android 13 and above having Quick Tap to activate the flashlight. You quickly tap the back of the phone to turn on/off the flashlight.

How to turn on your Android phone's flashlight

I see in the settings all kinds of quick panel and other quick things, but nothing about quick tap.

Do the Galaxy phones have quick tap?

---------------

In lieu of quick tap, I couldn't find anywhere in the "quick" settings' that would activate the flashlight. They only cover starting apps, not built-in features.

What I'd like is pressing the volume up & down buttons at the same time to activate the flashlight, or maybe double press them. (I miss my Moto chop to activate the flashlight.)

I know how to use the lock screen flashlight, and verbally ask Google to turn on the light, or pull down the quick action menu and press the flashlight, but volume up/down at the same time would be easier so I don't have to look at the screen to activate the flashlight from lock screen.

I used to have a flashlight app installed, but it kept activating the light when it was in my pocket, so I got rid of it.

This can be done with the RegiStar module in Good Lock. A long-press of the side key can activate the flashlight (see screenshot).

Samsung is working on incorporating a back-tap gesture in One UI 8.5. See this article for more info:

https://www.androidauthority.com/samsung-one-ui-8-5-double-back-tap-apk-teardown-3601435/

Yes you can set your power button to double tap to turn flashlight on and off. As far as tapping back of phone for your inquiry, Samsung devices do not have this feature nor is it within the software. A 3rd party app maybe but keep in mind, tapping the back of your phone for flashlight might have you strobing as you walk. 🖖🏻

I created two routines to double tap the back button to turn it on and long press it turn it of. These routines require the installation of Good Lock's routines + which adds the button actions to modes and routines. They also require that you be using the navigation bar to use that button, but you can choose any button for the action.

I don't have a back button on Galaxy s22U. Only side volume up & down, and the "side button" which is just below volume down.

I have Good Lock. I'll take a look at routines+.

The back button on the navigation bar. The arrow icon pointing to the left. However, if you do not use the nav bar, you can select another button fir the action. I prefer the nav bar icons, as there are only so many physical buttons to go around.

Well, all who responded have solutions, but for me they sacrifice what I want.

I use the "side button" double-press to activate the camera, which I use more than the flashlight. A long press on the side button brings up power off, restart, etc. options. I use that more than the flashlight too.

The other options still involve touching something on the screen to operate the flashlight.

So, from the original article I posted by Android Police, I chose to install Shake Flashlight by Sefar Gaming Studio. So far, it works quite well and simulates my retired Moto G6 phone's chop chop action to operate the flashlight.

How do I mark everones' answer as a solution (even though none are the solution for me)?

I uninstalled Shake Flashlight because it kept activating in my pocket.

I now have the flashlight on my lock screen. If the screen is black (well, as black as it gets with AOD) and I double tap it wakes up to the lock screen and I have it on the bottom right. Drag it to the center of the screen to turn on flashlight, and repeat to turn it off.

You set that up as a shortcut. Long press the lock screen, enter your PIN, and you can edit what's there.

You can also use "hey google" - "turn on flashlight". Supposedly you can also use "lux" and "nox" or whatever they say in the Harry Potter series, but I find Google may instead tell you about locks or Ft. Knox.
