Because it's being discontinued on July 6th 2026. So, if you still want to use a messaging app, you need to use Google messages, or another messaging app.

I hope samsung will realize how **bleep** off their customer base is about being forced into Google messages and change their minds but unfortunately I don't see that happening. If I wanted to be forced to use Google messages, I would have bought a pixel. Will never purchase a Samsung again if they go through with this change. This choice has consequences, Samsung. Give your customers the freedom of CHOICE.

Because they hate fun and (probably) eat babies. I don't know what corporate reasoning they have, but I dont care to have a built in ai for my messages app, I hardly even want it on the Google search engine. But "aI iS tHe FuTuRe."

Carriers will not commit support for Samsung massages, this is why Samsung is shutting down massages. Samsung stopped development of that massages couple years ago and they said back then that message will be gone.

In 2024, Samsung issued an official statement:

"Even if messaging apps follow the RCS standard, the availability may be limited depending on which app the other party uses. That’s why we decided to make Google Messages the common messaging platform, allowing Galaxy users to communicate more freely. This also enables a messaging app to respond to changes of the RCS standard more quickly and efficiently."

This transition was announced 2 years ago and is now being enforced

I've been using Google messages for over a year now. Actually like it a lot better. And I don't even have anything to do with the built in AI.

HATE, HATE, HATE GOOGLE MESSAGING. I want to keep a conversation but delete older parts like I did with SAMSUNG, but you can't do that, delete deletes the ENTIRE conversation.

It must be only in the US then? Samsung messages for people over seas already have these updates. I don’t understand why they can't just update it for us here to meet the requirements instead of forcing their customers onto a 3rd party.

If you like it so much, tell us how to delete older messages from a conversation and still keep the conversation with the latest messages...I get messages from a store, I want to keep the current week sale but delete last week. I tried but it deleted the entire conversation

It is not about update, it's servers hosting RCS. Samsung messages depend on carrier servers to provide RCS, while Google uses its own servers. Apple message also use carrier servers and carriers agreed to provide servers for Appl,probably for a fee

Like I stated long-press the individual older message and click the delete (trash can) icon at the top.

Open the message thread, find the message you want to delete, long press the message. It will then highlight and a little 🗑 will pop up on the top...click it and delete the message.

You need to click on one and make it your default. Whichever one you usually use is the one you should make default. It's basically asking if you want to use Google messages or Samsung messages.

But I have rcs on my samsung messages on my S22 Ultra and it works with Google messages and iphone users

RCS in Samsung Messages is carrier dependant and is not universally available to all users. For example, RCS has never been available to me in Samsung Messages on any of my devices because my carrier does not support it.
