But not automatically unlocked if the phone never meant the requirements or its being financed. The OP never mentined his sim worked on the locked verizon. I don't recomment nobody flashing anything their not aware off doing. Verizon automatically unlocks their device after 60 days. He said it's locked so it wasn't unlocked so previous owner didn't meet the requirements. This isn't a prepaid situation. If that device was actually from Verizon and not prepaid i feel bad.

Basically you have a lemon. Only the original owner can request such device to be unlocked. And being locked you wouldn't be able to use any carrier sim on it. You can either contact the person to have it unlocked, get your money back or sell it has locked Verizon version. Worse case scenario probably could be financed. If that's the case your **bleep** with paperweight. Call Verizon and give them the IMEI and find out if it's financed if not start services with them and few months unblock it. If you cant then there's nothing nobody can do. Try using a third service to unlock the phone. Good luck

Verizon phones are usually automatically unlocked after a period of time. If your sim card works then it isn't locked. With software updates some carriers are easier than others. 1) You can try Samsung Switch for PC program and try to update the phone that way. 2) Ask someone from USA to send you any Verizon sim card (even if it is deactivated) and try to update. 3) You can get a more direct approach by flashing the firmware of your device. Need to search online forums for this.

60 days, then the phone should be unlocked. Some companies sell unlock phone services. Dial #0001*unlockcode# ,,000000 or 123456 and see if unlocked is reported. It won't harm anything to try.

Cheers
3fees

First try 2 other methods I posted. These sites don't provide updates. They can help you flash your phone's firmware. You may not be comfortable doing it. XDA developers is one of the sites.

People are giving run around with a chance of failing. I recommend you not use custom firmware nor rom as previous comment. If you fail somehow and flash it wrong your device becomes useless by that i mean dead. Just call Verizon or go to a store and see if they can unlock it. Unlocking sites are hard to find because 99 percent of those are scams.

Let me see if I'm understanding this right. You have a phone you say is carrier locked to Verizon, US, but you are using a Indian sim card in it is that correct? If that is the case the phone is not carrier locked to Verizon or your sim would not work. Was this phone bought in the US? Are you using this phone in India? The issue I believe you are having with updates stems from the fact the phones firmware is US based and will not accept the updates from India

The only plan of action I can see as working for you is to take the phone back to where you purchased it and see about getting a refund on it, as it will not update US firmware in India.
