Samsung Messages is dependant on carrier implementations of RCS.

Most carriers are transitioning to Google's version of RCS because it runs through Google's servers, tends to be more compatible with iOS, and doesn't require the carrier to build and maintain their own RCS infrastructure.

Unfortunately, you will likely need to transition to google messages to retain RCS Chat features going forward.

Samsung is sunsetting the app and it will most likely be discontinued completely at some point.

Samsung made Google Messages the new default app, so the official guidance is to Switch ASAP. Unless something changes, expect Samsung messages to continue losing more and more features over time.
