This was not really an acceptable solution for me. I tried the edge panels on an earlier Note when they first came out; but I didn't care for them as they pop out at times when I have NOT selected them. Instead I created a box in that bottom line, the space that's always available on every "page" and then I selected the CONTACT WIDGET of my choice BACK THEN; selected the contact, and dropped each one into that box. I have some contacts that still use ONLY a landline, so they got the widget for DIRECT CALL; I have other contacts to whom I regularly send text messages and/or attachments , so they got the WIDGET for the whole contact -- NOT just DIRECT CALL. And I was able to drop them all in a box -- including my co-workers, friends, and family members. It took two "screens" within that box. BUT they were all handy at the touch of a button. That box transferred during the Samsung Switch transfer from my NOTE 20 ULTRA to my GALAXY S23 ULTRA. But oddly enough, only SOME of the CALL AND/OR TEXT contacts made it through. And not all of the DIRECT CALL CONTACTS made it through -- but at least I could FIX THEM!

To eliminate the DIRECT TEXT WIDGET is a colossal error on Samsung's part. What do you do if you need to send someone an attachment -- go back to your contacts list and search?? No, what I described above is much easier and simpler. One can have AS MANY CONTACTS AS YOU WANT, right at your fingertips, set up for either TEXT OR TALK. They aren't sliding in and out of the edge panels with other things you might have set up on edge panels. And IF Samsung is going to eliminate a contact widget, WHY ELIMINATE THE ONE WITH OPTIONS? That doesn't make sense AT ALL.
