Google Play System Update (Mainline) – March 20, 2026 – Battery Drain + Fix

I realize this is not specifically a Samsung software issue; rather a Google Play Systems update that may have impacted your phone.

Sharing this in case other S24 Ultra users run into the same issue.

On March 20th I manually checked for updates and installed the latest Google Play System Update (Mainline). The update shows as:

Android System Intelligence B.23 (2026‑03‑20)

After the reboot, my phone went from normal idle drain to catastrophic drain — dropping over 10% in a couple of hours while sitting idle, and continuing to fall rapidly even with minimal use. Nothing showed up in battery stats, no heat, no CPU load. Classic Mainline module failure.

Fix:

Go to:

Settings → Google → All services → System services → Mainline services

There was a “Remove updates” option.

I removed the Mainline update, the phone rebooted, and battery behavior immediately returned to normal.

Posting this so others know the cause and the fix.

This only happened because I manually checked for the GPSU — it did not auto‑install.

Hope this helps if you encountered the same issue. My 24U is back to normal.

BTW: My 24U is on Google Play System January 2026 update. Your phone may vary and that's just how Google roles. After the update above, the phone was still on January 2026 as the release was a maintenance only.

Cause and effect were easy to see in this case. The remedy of uninstalling the update was immediate.
I have my phone back now.

Thanks for the post. It's a great example of why the ability to uninstall Mainline updates was introduced in the first place.

I updated and so did my friend and fiancé. All different phones and different services and plans. We all have this constantly polling for GPS. I can't find what you mentioned. I tried rolling back Android Intelligence and that didn't work. I believe I have to roll back Google Play Services but I can't "Deactivate" to uninstall.
