I bought a galaxy s24 ultra on amazon that is unlocked with verizon and t-mobile but it only does software updates through verizon and i have a t-mobile account. i cant seem to do anything with it and thinking about trading it in for a phone from t-mobile. do i need to do anything before i trade it in besides a factory reset? Would really like some input

Your phone was originally carrier-locked to Verizon and it's looking for updates from Verizon servers. Return the phone if you can and look for one that's factory unlocked (model name ends in U1). If it's no longer returnable, your options are:

1. If you have access to a computer, try using Smart Switch to see if you can get updates.

2. Temporarily install a Verizon SIM (it doesn't have to be active) to get updates. You will have to do this every time there's an update.

3. Take your phone to an authorized service center to have them flash unlocked firmware. There will be a fee for this service, but it will allow you to get OTA updates regardless of which carrier's SIM is installed. See this link to find a location near you:

what if i wanted to sell it or upgrade to another phone. would i need to sell it to a verizon person? who would i need to go to upgrade to a newer phone?

If you want to sell it to a private party, make sure they know it was originally Verizon-locked and can only get updates with a Verizon SIM. If you're trading it in to a carrier or authorized reseller, you shouldn't need to do anything other than factory reset it. Check with the vendor about their requirements.

I think I might have to sell it to a private party or someone who has a Verizon account because it only gets Verizon software updates and not T-Mobile software updates. I don't think T-Mobile would let me upgrade from this phone if it's a Verizon phone 🤔. Not sure if I should ask or not

I bought it from an Amazon as unlocked but it's unlocked for both T-Mobile and Verizon but the phone has the Verizon software as the service provider. Think the seller did something to the phone considering they are under a fraud investigation in California.

Verizon unlocks there phones I think after 6 weeks. I left Verizon and went to consumer cellular no unlocking here.
