I currently just bought a S24+ off of backmarket and went through the System updates and it states the phone is up to date on version 6.1 However I'd like to be running the lastest software 8.0... AI suggested that I try Samsung smartswitch and it would update. (It didnt) I also tured off my esim and cleared the cache on System updates, restarted my phone using only wifi then tried updates again. (NOTHING) Now it's suggested I just take my phone to best buy... Any suggestions as to why the software is not updating? It's a unlocked phone (U.S.)

If so, it is a carrier unlocked phone. More than likely the original carrier is not the carrier that you are using. Therefore when the phone checks for an update it is looking for the original carrier's firmware and won't find it on your carrier's firmware update server.

Thanks. Still need that screenshot to see who the original carrier was. It's a "U" device, so it was originally locked to a carrier. The phone wants to download updates from that server. That's why you're not getting them.

We need to see the software you are running currently to determine what was the previous carrier. Go to settings, about phone, software take a screenshot and post it here.
Thanks. It appears your phone was originally carrier-locked to AT&T and it's looking for updates from those servers. Return the phone if you can and look for one that's factory unlocked (model name ends in U1). If it's no longer returnable, your options are:

1. If you have access to a computer, try using Smart Switch to see if you can get updates.

See "software update via Smart Switch on your Windows PC or Mac" on this page:

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS10002027/

2. Temporarily install a AT&T SIM (it doesn't have to be active) to get updates. You will have to do this every time there's an update.

3. Take your phone to an authorized service center to have them flash unlocked firmware. There will be a fee for this service, but it will allow you to get OTA updates regardless of which carrier's SIM is installed. See this link to find a location near you:

https://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/locations/

It was previously on AT&T; that is why you can't update the phone. If you know someone with AT&T, you can borrow their SIM, and it will update.

You can go to an authorized Samsung service center to have them flash the proper software to make your phone a U1, factory unlocked. It will cost around $150, depending on where you live.

You can also go to an AT&T and get a prepaid SIM; you will have to do this for any future updates.
