There was an Update at the beginning of April and my phone has not been the same since

1) I am using adaptive battery and have waited the proper time for the battery to "optimize"

2) I have light power usage on and have downloaded and am using Good Guardians to "optimize the battery"

3) I have limited any apps using too much power

4) I have ran diagnostics

5) any other battery saving techniques I did not mention, I have already done these

A standard screen on time (SOT) for a modern smartphone typically ranges from 5 to 7 hours on a single full charge with mixed usage (social media, web browsing, camera). While 4–5 hours is often considered average or "acceptable," 8+ hours is considered great, and anything under 4 hours usually indicates heavy battery drain.
What is Standard Screen on Time?
Definition: SOT represents the cumulative time a phone's display is active and powered on, from the last full charge until the battery requires a recharge.
Context: It is a measure of active, intended use rather than standby time (when the phone is idle).
Synonyms/Related Terms: Battery lifespan, battery efficiency, usage time, active display time, and battery endurance.
Usage Examples & Factors Influencing SOT
SOT is highly variable based on how you use your device:
Heavy Usage (Lower SOT): 3D gaming, high-brightness outdoors, video recording, or constant mobile data usage.
Light Usage (Higher SOT): Primarily Wi-Fi, reading, and low-brightness browsing can push battery life into the 8–10+ hour range on premium devices.
Hardware Impact: Large, high-refresh-rate screens (e.g., 120Hz) consume more power, reducing total SOT compared to, for instance, a 60Hz setting. After a big software update I recommend a manufacturer reset of your device for it to run at its best. I dont know when you got your device but if it's a couple of years old I recommend you get a battery replacement done if you want like new battery life.

The entire point is battery life can fluctuate heavily based on so many factors and your battery starts to deteriorate over time. So, the battery life that you get early on will start to slowly get worse and worse. If you did a true manufacturer reset and it did not help, you might be ready for a battery replacement. If your phone is roughly 2 years old and you're not happy with the roughly 4 hours of screen-on time that you're showing, it will get you back to like new.

My SO, having an S24 Ultra, is having the exact same issues as this post and others are describing. I have an S23 Ultra with no issues and i did have an update very recently. Were not sure what to do and I'm worried about the health of the battery dealing with such a debilitating constant load on it just for her to be able to use it. It is going to effect the batteries life for it to continue cycling so drastically, not to mention other components with the heat produced during this.
We're going to try to keep the phone off as much as possible until something is done.

This issue is clearly because of the April update, anyone stating "be happy your old phone has that much" is delusional and doesn't know how to troubleshoot. I'm in the same exact boat. S24+, 2 years old. I had zero issues with battery life and now after the update my phone thinks it's an easy bake oven and goes through battery even when idle and locked!

Batteries deteriorate over time, yes. Batteries deteriorate over a single night that happens to be the same night as an update? Are your lights on upstairs?

Not once did I say, "Be happy." I was stating facts, and getting a battery replacement will help if your battery has degraded below 80 percent. My son's S24 Ultra battery life was thankfully not affected by the last update. I was just giving some advice as to what can be happening and what is normal with mobile phone batteries. I wish phone batteries held their capacity for 5 years or more. Ps my lights are off upstairs my battery ran out😂
