When buying an unlocked phone on Samsung.com will you still get the software and security updates? If so will I still get the 7 years of updates for my new Samsung s24 ultra I will be getting. And do you have to use the E_sim or can I use my phones Sim card? Or should I just get a Verizon carrier phone ?

Yes, you're buying from Samsung, so I'll get the updates for sure.

As for eSIM / SIM cards, either way should work fine but I'm not familiar with Verizon. Don't know which one is the better way.

Yes for updates. I went with Visible Mobile and got esim. It's much cheaper than Verizon buy owned by Verizon.

Actually, your updates come from your carrier, not Samsung, even unlocked devices.

I have found that on these boards, fewer people have problems with Verizon than any other
carrier with buggy updates.
Most of the problems with calling, data, Wifi is something a carrier has done to the phone.

From my experience with the software updates, I had an unlocked S23 Ultra, and it was the last variant to get updated to One UI 6.0. The carriers push out the updates sooner!

No, Samsung creates and releases the software and releases it to each carrier to be distributed. The unlocked decices get the updates first. Carriers come afterwards because the carriers have custom versions. Why tf would Verizon and att be responsible for releasing Samsung's software? They're not.

The unlocked devices have their own update server not related to the carrier. Your statement is still wrong.

Yes you will still get the 7 year updates and you can simply swap your sim into the new phone with no problems I'm with Verizon and just did it yesterday

The carriers still push all updates to unlocked and to the carrier versions Samsung gives the updates to the carriers and they push them out

Unlocked is the way to go. You can still decide who your carrier is. Also, there is less bloatware and you can insert SIMs for travel or if you find a cheaper plan.

Your updates to your unlocked phone comes from your carrier not from Samsung. I always thought unlocked phones were updated first. I have learned otherwise from the info in this forum and from my experience with my S21.
