GPS location very unstable

Just got my S24 Ultra and started to use. The GPS is very important to us as we travel and hike very often. Also, we take many photos and geotag them so we can see where we've been. First thing I notice is that my location is jumping around in Google Maps! My location isn't even close to my home, and it looks like I'm in other people's yards and bouncing all over the place. The precise location NEVER locks! This also initially happened with my galaxy S22U, but was eventually fixed.

I used the GPSTest utility to look at the gps data and the satellite acquisition is poor. Most of the L5 satellites are missing and Beidou satellites are far and few between. The gps accuracy and speed are jumping all over the place. My S22U accuracy was fixed at 8.4ft and speed close to zero, since not moving. My S24U accuracy is bouncing all over but typically around 33ft, and my speed can reach 10mph! This is completely frustrating. Anyone else having this issue, or did I get a bad phone? Zoom in down to the outline of your home to see this problem on Google Maps.

By the way, I tested the the gps location accuracy using the Samsung phone diagnostics and it said "normal". Normal compared to what? Samsung, I hope you're seeing this, and please fix asap. I will be returning this phone if this basic necessity can't be fixed, unfortunately.😞

I didn't notice any issues in Google maps when I put in my address, but I did notice when I returned from my walk yesterday that Samsung Health from my Active4 had my GPS tracks way off. Same watch, just different phone. I'll walk again today to see if it's any better. If I can attach pictures, you'll see the difference in the maps between my S10+ and S24 Ultra. Route basically the same, just went in opposite directions on each day to add interest. First one is S10+, 2nd is S24U.

I contacted Samsung support and they were very responsive! They are working on a fix. My GPS seems to be behaving better since the call, but I didn't personally change anything. However, Google Maps is still slow to acquire accurate GPS and the circle of uncertainty never goes away, and it normally does. I'm hoping for a fix in the near future, but we'll see?

Glad to hear your gps worked on your walk today! I also seem to be getting good data on the GPSTest app, today, with Horiz Accur of 8.2ft and speed of zero. Unfortunately, I do believe Google Maps needs an update to obtain a faster fix and better locking onto location. We'll see what Samsung does on a future update?

GPS inaccurate when on cellular data, but ok on Wi-Fi

Anyone else have their GPS off by about a mile with cellular? Wifi based seems OK if I turn off cellular, but turn it on and it throws me to the exact location about a mile away.

Mine was. Are you using Google? Don't forget to take a picof your house or somewhere you know GPS is marked and verify address. Also, check your global positioning sensor. Also, magnetic energy can have some influence in the area. Hope this helps. Check for updates and again, it could simply be your app.

Nope, what does help is literally waiting 5-10 minutes, the GPS eventually orients itself...

The incorrect location happens regardless of app(which, of course, they all use Google location services)
Also, gegardless of where in town I am, it ties location pretty much to that 1 spot. So, at work it's a mile off for a bit. 2 miles at home. 11 miles off at a 2nd job site, but after a while, it's back, but who wants to sit and wait 5-10 minutes. Sim card placed in my s22 and 2 razer phones works fine. Seems the s24 is struggling a bit to obtain a GPS lock or is prioritizing cellular above all else.

This could be a variety of issues. One of the main issues is battery optimization of Maps. If you go to the settings menu, apps, then maps check the permissions you have set. Change to allow all the time for location. Also, make sure that it is able to access all other permissions required for proper functionality. Other than this. There are a few other steps we can take to check out what's going on too. I know it's frustrating as can be when this happens. It happened to me on a past device. But so far not on the S24 Ultra.

I noticed this as well!

Went for a 15 mile bicycle ride yesterday. The app that I've used for more than a decade reported ~8 miles total distance with a jumble of ~10 straight lines instead of the actual route.

Yeah, it's tough purchasing the latest and greatest phone without knowing what issues will pop up. I was hoping for a fix on 1/23 but it looks like Samsung has a lot to fix on this first update. 😞

I'm having the same issue. I can't even use maps to navigate because it just freezes trying to aquire gps. I've never had issues like this with any previous phone

Having issues when I connect android auto the map gets stuck until I unlock the phone then navigation keeps up with the car moving but when phone is locked the navigation stops making you think you have not reached your exit in reality you're about to pass it

I sure hope the release of this first update fixes the gps and mapping issues everyone is seeing! I keep purchasing newly released phones and am tired of waiting for fixes to major functionality issues. Seeing that phones aren't changing much, year to year, I'm likely just going to keep this phone for a long time before upgrading. Thankfully, seven years of updates sounds great right about now!

I've also been having this same issue with my S24 Ultra -- it seems like it ignores the precise location setting -- when I remove that from the S23 Ultra I have, I see the same effects I see on the S24 Ultra -- jumping around in Google Maps even though the phone isn't moving. I've even rebooted the S24 Ultra under safe mode to eliminate some app interfering, but the issue persists.

Even though I don't trust Samsung support, one rep over seemed to admit hers also had location issues when I asked, but who knows. May go take a look at a few stores where they have demo units (T-mobile, verizon, etc) and see if this is also an issue on those.

I have 2 pcs S24 and 1 pc S24 ultra. Everyone has the same problem.
