WhatsApp missed call notifications stopped showing when screen is off

Somehow my S24 ultra stopped showing WhatsApp missed call notifications when the screen is off. I will only see that I have a missed call if I go to the chat or call log within WhatsApp.

Have tried all settings, nothing works. Uninstalled and reinstalled, still not working. And this was working fine, just stopped working without me changing any settings.

Anyone else have this issue?

Thank you for reaching out! I understand how important it is to receive notifications from WhatsApp. It sounds like you have already attempted several methods to fix this. Have you made sure the phone and the app are up to date? You also said you tried different settings. Can you confirm that WhatsApp notifications are enabled? You can check by going to Settings > Notifications > Apps > WhatsApp > Tap Call notifications > Turn on Show notifications and ensure WhatsApp notifications are turned on. You can also try turning off Do Not Disturb.

If notifications are enabled and the issue persists, clearing the app cache might help. Follow the link below to do that.

Yes, notifications are enabled, do not disturb disabled. Tried clearing cache, issue remains. I have gone through all recommendations and believe this might be a bug of some sort.

It is only happening with WhatsApp missed calls, when the phone is locked. All other notifications are ok, and if the phone is unlocked I do get the missed call notifications.

I have alsof this problem with my Samsung galaxy 24 plus. Only the whatsapp. Do you maybe have a solution now? Because so far nothing is working.

I have this problem too on my S21. All other notifications work, only WhatsApp missed calls that don’t.

Still no solution. Ended up calling Samsung tech support and they suggested I reset the phone, which I am not keen on doing...

I have reset my phone to try but it is still the same.

It would show missed call notifications randomly but not all the time. It is very frustrating

I have also noticed that as I gave my phone missed whatsapp calls, the deleted categories under Notification categories of whatsapp are increasing

I am at 22 deleted categories now

I read that these deleted categories are a way for the OS to combat spam Notifications by the app so I assume this is a Samsung OS issue

Ok so I found a solution

You know when you receive a whatsapp call, the whole screen shows it

You have to deny full screen access to whatsapp then you'll get your missed call notifications

Settings

Apps

Three dots

Special access

Full screen access

Look for whatsapp

I tried but the issue now is I don't get the alert for incoming calls, so I miss all my calls. How do you get around this?

That's interesting cause I still get my incoming call alerts just not the full screen.

It's a little banner on top of the screen when it rings

Not only this,

Lets say there's an x person, if he send me 5 messages, and I am sleeping, he also calls one time while i am sleeping. Now that missed call notification basically kills all the meesages from that person altogether. So after the missed call, not I dont have the missed call notification and the normal message notifications of that person. Just so annoying.

Anyone get a solution to this? I have a s24 ultra and it was working prior to the last update. As OP only can see the call when the screen is on.

When the screen is off I don't see the incoming call or receive a missed notification from WhatsApp about a call. I have to check the notification on the call tab within WhatsApp to see any missed calls which has the small number displaying a missed call.

DND is off. Uninstalled the app and reinstalled, cleared cache, WhatsApp has full permissions, issue is only impacting WhatsApp. I seem to think it happened after I moved to the latest update. Don't want to restore the phone for one app issue regarding partial issue, others seem to have the issue as well. Nothing else has worked in the thread when testing.

I still have the issue. Have not reset my phone as someone here mentioned they did and it did not work.

There is another post that suggested a solution that for me unfortunately did not work. Seems like a bug that is not being addressed...

Maybe best if everyone facing this reports it to Samsung.

Select apps in settings then press tree dots at the top. Scroll down to full screen alerts and press. Turn on for WhatsApp. This solved the issue for me and I hope it helps others

I have started experiencing the same issue on my Galaxy S24 Ultra - Whatsapp message notifications suddenly just stopped working in a way that I don't receive any sound/vibration (when phone is locked) or the visible pop-up when I'm using the phone. The new message however can be normally accessed in the notification panel (when I swipe down on a homescreen), but there's no audible/visible notification whatsoever.

What I noticed is that issue was somehow related to the Whatapp for Wear OS app. I've recently switched from Galaxy Watch6 Classic to Watch8 Classic. I have installed Whatsapp WearOS app on the new watch (I didn't use it on Watch6), however the WearOS app is quite limited (also drained the watch battery) so I uninstalled it next day. And this is exactly when I've started experiencing a problem with notifications not appearing on the phone.

I've checked on all notification-related settings, tried to set them off and on again, restarted phone, applied suggestions found in this thread - nothing worked. Also, Whatsapp notifications are working ok on other devices logged into my Whatsapp account (ie. laptop), so this is Samsung-specific issue. Very annoying.

UPDATE:
This issue has automagically fixed itself the next day I have reported this. Very strange...
