You ever hear of using a) using one ear bud or b) using a Bluetooth speaker or c) directing your call to the earbuds and your other media to the phone? Nothing says your connected device has to be earbuds or headphones. Nothing says you have to wear two earbuds, many people use only one. People say they are playing other media because they are on extended hold or watching their SO sleep. In that case it does not matter, because one is not talking or listening to anyone anyway. Even so, unless you have ANC ear buds, you will still be able to hear your phone call, unless you have the volume ear damaging loud.
