Location icon constantly keeps popping up

I have noticed that on this latest update the location icon keeps popping up in the status bar more than what it should be it didn't do that before this update is anyone experiencing the same issue

Do you have location toggled on in your quick panel? If you want it on but not seen, then using the QuickStar plugin in Good Lock will have a toggle to hide that in the status bar.

Yes it is on in quick panel it has been on times before this update i never had this problem

I think that is so it lets the user know their location service is on. Like I said before, if you want it on, but do not want to see the icon, use QuickStar and it has a toggle to turn off that status bar icon (among many others too). If you do not have that, go to the Galaxy Store search for and download the Good Lock app. Open that, then it will have a list of plugins that can be used to customize the quick panel and even make color tones for the functions. Look at the lsit of plugins, click on and install QuickStar, open it then scroll down t location and toggle it off.

Location accuracy is the problem. It's Google play Services, and the phone app, and a few others updating your location every 60 seconds literally like clock work. Start by turning off location accuracy, and take away the permissions for location accuracy from all possible apps. I can't belive Sammy hasn't even came out and said anything about this yet, because even during the betas this was mentioned heavily in the forums, This needs to be fixed, I have 3 s24U in our family and all 3 have the same exact issue. It's is not an issue on a device by device case type of thing. It is a serious issue with the OS. Also for the Google play services, you might need to do the uninstall and reinstall of that app to get it to stop doing the 60 second updates. It has helped my device so very much, it was literally unusable for a few days. It was doing so much location updating that the phone was getting hot just by watching YouTube. Now I can get about 8 to10 hours of SOT daily after the fixes I mentioned. Good luck. I hope it helps a bit. 🤞🏻✌🏻

You are welcome and also note that the app is made by Good Lock Labs. While GLL is its own entity, Samsung supports its software for Samsung device as they are closely associated.

I just installed the April Security patch on my S25U, to my surprise and dissatisfaction a location icon is a permanent fixture on my status bar.

I get that system apps will have unlimited access to my location, and when a 3rd party app accesses my location you would get the little green location icon in the status bar.

Personally I don't feel a need to be told I have location turned on, it's in my quick panel with a toggle button that I can see.

On a side note, thank goodness it isn't green on your homescreen, only on the notification shade. You can check on the notification panel by tapping the green icon what is using your location.

Do I think it is nefarious in any way like some people who tend to be on the paranoid side of things, and have been posting here of late, no.

Is anyone one else seeing this on there S25 series with the April Security patch?

BTW on Verizon purchased from Samsung!

The worst part of this update is that you no longer have a green location icon on your status bar when a 3rd party app accesses your location. You now have to pull down the notification shade to see that it has been accessed.

This might be one of the dumbest things Samsung has ever done to our phones. It defeats the purpose of security and privacy when you don't get a real-time notice on the status bar.

Yes, I understand this.
You do not get a real time notice that a 3rd party app has accessed your location.
Before the the update, you open an app, boom you get a green location icon that the app you opened accessed your location.
After the update this is no longer the case, you don't know now unless you pull down the notification shade, tap the location icon and check to see if it did.

This is not intuitive, it is also a security and privacy concern.

How is opening an app prior to update, better to find that it tracks your location, as opposed to just touching the green locations icon in the quick panel? It would seem going through/just opening apps to see/find out which are tracking the location, is not as intuitive as clicking on the location icon itself and showing the app accessing it.

You get it in real time, without having to look that it did.

If you close out the app that does, it will not show in the list that it did.

Ok, but clicking on the icon is showing real time. Just opening an app to find it is tracking the location is not intuitive. Now if the app shows somehow without having to open it, like having numbrr/icon next to it, is one thing. But discovering location being tracked by opening the app leaves it to chance. Discovery is not had until the app opened.

Clicking on green icon now hows a pop up that the location is being tracked as in this example of a pop up from tapping the icon . Having said that, I find the green icon bit annoying because of the color clash and size.

Location Always On

With the new One UI 7 update, my location services WILL NOT turn off on both my S25s. Tried everything (reinstalling Play services, force stopping, etc.) and it does not solve this problem.

Only disabling Location Accuracy and restarting the phone seemed to solve the issue temporarily. Even then, the phone is pulling location every 3-5 minutes for something that it wasn't pulling before the update. Samsung, please fix this ASAP as I have seen MANY phones suffering this post-update.

Afraid you can't!

It isn't a battery drainer, just don't like that it is always there.

You can remove it with Goodlock QuickStar module from the homescreen.

I have a s25 ultra. It came with one ui 7. I'm having the exact same issue after the new April update AP3A that came out today. It did not used to do this with location when I bought the phone.
