It doesn't use that much. I use it all the time and I have 47 percent battery around 3 o'clock in the afternoon. After unplugging at 7am. If you like the Aod, keep it, you paid for that cool feature 👍🏻

So, I know what Samsung says, but the part of my brain that has seen countless screens destroyed by burn (not mine, mostly my mom who has her timeout set to an astonishing 10 minutes) my question is, does using AOD cause a significant drain on battery, and is there a risk of burn.. just wanted real opinions on this matter!

Yes, to both questions. There is an option to have the AOD clock move to different positions to help prevent burn, but the info bar at the very top is always there when the screen is on, which can lead to burn there.

I suggest limiting the screen time being on to seconds and turning on Double Tap To Wake.

use AOD tap to show if you wanted to keep AOD being on but also to avoid battery drain or burn in issue

Okay, thank you. I knew about the tap to wake, but It just doesn't make sense because I could do that without AOD lol..

And Dan, that really doesn't make sense that they wouldnt hide the bar at the top..

"And Dan, that really doesn't make sense that they wouldnt hide the bar at the top.."

I understand your point of view. And, honestly, I've never had a burn issue on any of my phones over the thirty years that I've been using them.

Isn't the top bar hidden on your phone too when the screen is off or when AOD is on?

I see now, you meant to use the bar as the counter argument 😅 which I fully agree.. I just wanted to know if people ACTUALLY have a problem with AOD burning.. yes, the risk is "there" but how often does that actually do anything

Sorry for the confusion on part. I did kind of switch subjects on you.

You can use Modes and Routines to sent the brightness at night, so that it will lower the brightness of the screen and limit the risk of burn.

In AOD, you can schedule when AOD is on. Maybe off at night when sleeping, to help limit the risk.

AOD is certainly better than having the lockscreen on for long periods. And it appears that they might have removed the ability to have an AOD image to help cut the risk of burn.

I have my AOD always on, no significant battery drain. In fact, it doesn't even show up in my battery usage statistics. Even going to the app info (it's a system app), the battery usage is nil. I have never suffered burn in, on any phone and I never turn the phone off (except for occasional reboots. The items on AOD pixel shift subtly to avoid this. if you are worried about burn in, just don't keep the AOD on, or use a routine to turn it only at night (for those who use it as a bedside clock).
