I didn't ask for your opinion on what I was doing--I asked for any suggestions or info about it so that I could deconstruct what happened, or info on how Secure Folder locks data so that I might be able to take some measures MYSELF. Developer Options generally aren't harmful, and to say that I have no knowledge of whatsoever is completely off-base. Thanks for your unhelpful and unwarranted opinion though.

For the record, @realaud, I clicked "Reflection Test" not to run it, but to see what it was (expecting an additional prompt or warning) or to see if it would expand another section of options like some of the other options did. It did not. It simply blanked out the screen and brought me back to my home screen. I am not just some random moron. I was trying to explore the options to see what might be useful to me. Anyone can see in hindsight what the option will do or that I should have looked up what it might be before clicking it. Again though, it wasn't clear that it was going to execute a procedure instantly. And yes, all of the searching for info online produces next to nothing, or info from years back, which is why I came here, thinking I might get some info, not unwarranted opinions on what I should have done.

A Reflection Test should have executed an examination of its own code. Ours did not do that and is clearly corrupted.

Any info that is not simply an opinion on what I shouldn't have clicked would be welcomed.

In the hopes of modifying my GPS location, I was poking around in the Dev Options in Secure Folder (REMOVED). In doing so, I clicked "Reflection Test" out of curiosity. Unfortunately, that action instantly wiped the entirety of the Secure Folder. Kind of unbelievable, really. It takes time to delete things from just about any interface I'm aware of, save for this. Instantly upon clicking it, I was ousted from Secure Folder, and upon attempting to go back into it to continue trying to troubleshoot, I was greeted with a fresh setup screen. It seems that everything was wow literally, instantly wiped out. Not only is this extremely disheartening and infuriating, it is just amazing that it occurred so instantaneously. That leads me to believe that all my files and apps are still actually present, just entirely out of reach. I was wondering if anyone was aware of a way to undo whatever instant trick "Reflection Test" conducted. Something like this obviously shouldn't happen, despite the fact that I was poking around. A properly functioning "Test" shouldn't result in outright scorched-earth data loss like this. Any suggestions or thoughts, or even information on how Secure Folder actually obfuscates data would be greatly appreciated, in the hope that maybe I can deconstruct what happened and/or restore my data via some third party solution.

All of the research I did notes that the reflection test in secure folder developer options is a setting that will delete everything in secure folder without giving any warning. It never fails to amaze me when someone (@GalaxyUser22) is poking around in an area they have no knowledge of whatsoever, and they click on something without doing any research, which then provides an instant, drastic, and sometimes insufferable consequence, they (@GalaxyUser22) are always trying to blame someone else! You (@GalaxyUser22) did it, now you (GalaxyUser22) own it!

I just do not understand why people go poking around in developer options if they do not know what they are doing. The options are hidden for a reason-to protect people from themselves. Even if one knows their way around DO, why select an option they know nothing about? I believe the proper thing to do upon coming across an option you are unfamiliar with would be to look it up in a search engine before clicking.

There are many cases of people wandering around in there and turning things on or off, forgetting which switches they changed and then wondering why their phone does not work properly and are totally unable to reverse what they did. Yet, the thought of factory resetting their phones is a no-go option for them. I will concede, though that "reflection test" gives no inkling as to what it does. However, that would make it more reasonable to search before tapping.

Looking something up before clicking is always prudent. *You* own this error. As I said, developer options are hidden for a reason, and if you do not know what something does DO NOT CLICK IT. Not every action explains itself or has a warning or chance to back out. And sometimes some actions simply can't be undone. No remedy. You may be able to get the secure folder back the way it was by restoring your backup, provided the backup hasn't been overwritten by a new one. The bottom line here is, if you don't know what something does, leave it alone. That's not hindsight, that's common sense.

This is a bit of a false analogy, and I'm sure you can understand why. It is not unreasonable to think that something labeled as something should do or be that something. It is not unreasonable to think that software pushed to Production shouldn't be present if it has fatal flaws, Developer Options or not. It is not unreasonable to believe that a Reflection Test does not equal wiping or reassigning a partition. The post facto belaboring of your point is neither warranted nor helpful to me.

Once again, and as said to @Oxford, post facto point-belaboring isn't useful or wanted. Obviously, I shouldn't have assumed that a button that was labeled with a diagnostic test wouldn't run said diagnostic test and would instead wipe a data partition, right? Or that it wouldn't expand the section below it or open an additional menu of options, right? I should assume that Production-level software simply doesn't work because it's in Developer Options. Perhaps the two of you are helpful in other situations in this forum, but this isn't what I came here for. I came here looking for some technical insight into what the corrupted process might have done, and to learn about Samsung's software reads the Secure partition. It clearly didn't actually wipe the data and is simply ignoring it now. I thought posting in this Community would be more expedient than spending the time to work through it myself, or that some more technical members might be able to give me some actionable info, but it doesn't look like that's going to be the case. My last backup is several months old. If all I wanted to do was restore a backup, I wouldn't have bothered posting.

Even a several months old backup would contain most, if not all of the data you are missing, unless you created your folder after that backup. . Your phone should be auto backing up each night. I believe that if you had the secure folder synced with the cloud, the data would have been wiped from there, as well, since it's a sync, not a backup. Restoring a backup would be your ONLY remedy. I don't use the secure folder, because, not only do I have nothing that needs to be hidden, not a single other person has access to my phone, so I am unsure if the secure folder is contained in the backup.

Ask yourself, if that is the definition you believe of what "reflection test" means, does it even make sense to be in the developer options of the secure folder - there is no code to be executed to test. The fact that it's there and double hidden, should be an indicator that you should not touch it unless you are 100% sure you know what it does. I will concede that it's a misnomer to call it that; it likely should have been called "self destruct" and lettered in red with a warning triangle.

Wow, the amount of shaming in this thread.

I am a developer. I was trying to look for a way to somehow turn off developer options for secure folder (obviously there are no documented steps but hey there are hidden settings so I'll check it out). I tapped on reflection test and got the same result.

Yes, this is on a "hidden developer" setting, but a button saying "reflection test" should not wipe data, plain as day. This is a UI/UX issue even for developers. If you want analogy, it's walking through a "slippery when wet" sign but then you get mugged by the employees. Yes, it makes no sense - because it doesn't. And no, the "reflection test" isn't documented also so "searching it up" isn't really up there.

As for OP, sorry - haven't found a way to get back the data.
