Been having serious battery drain ever since installing the January 2026 security patch on my Galaxy S25. I already did a full factory reset without restoring a backup, then updated again to the latest software — and I’m still having battery issues. On top of that, I’m noticing touchscreen problems and overall performance issues. Has anyone else experienced this after the update? Any fixes, settings to change, or suggestions that actually helped? Thanks.

When did you have the update? Security updates are no different than OS updates, the battery will still need to relearn your usage patterns and it will still take about a week to 10 days to stabilize. Each time you do a factory reset, you start the re-learning process over again.

What do you consider serious battery drain? What do you consider serious may not be serious at all, just not what you are used to getting. Going from 100% to 60% in three hours is serious drain. Going from 100% to 80% in three hours is not. Look at your battery usage stats and see if anything stands out in the top 3 apps as being abnormally high. Tap those apps and look at the screen on time and background activity.

Which S25 series device do you have and what kind of battery life are you getting?

If you have just updated recently, Galaxy phones have an adaptive battery feature that uses machine learning to optimize battery consumption based on your usage.

After a major software update, this feature resets and needs to relearn your usage patterns. You may notice diminished battery life for 7-14 days while this process takes place.

UI8 has been a dramatic improvement for my S24+, which is getting phenomenal battery life. I average 8hrs SOT on a single charge.

Did you follow the Best practice guide? https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tips-Tricks/Best-Practices-After-an-Update/ba-p/3200871?src=ShareByUserCM

Are you using Good Guardians to optimize your device? https://apps.samsung.com/appquery/appDetail.as?appId=com.android.samsung.utilityapp

These things can really help if you haven't done them yet.

My Galaxy went to a black screen of d in the middle of a call after the update, same day. I called and they serioulsy said all of these issues people are having IS THE PHONES not the update.

"It is not the update, the software is simply showing a fault in the phone and exposed it,"

Seriously!

That's what the phone does - it times out, usually faster than your screen timeout settings. It's supposed to do that. If you want it to stay on, download Good Lock's Display assistant and select the call and phone apps to stay on for 10 minutes. In that app, you can also add a quick panel icon to keep your screen on for 30 minutes any time you wish, so during a phone call you can just toggle it on and your screen won't time out. If you put your phone to your ear, like a normal phone user, the proximity sensor will cause the screen to turn off so you don't accidentally push any buttons. This has been phone behavior since cell phones were invented.

Did the screen merely go dark, or did it disconnect your call? Do you really need for your screen to be on for your entire phone conversation? Will you then complain about the battery drain every time you get or make a call? Using the 10 minute screen on time will keep your phone screen on during the important part of your call, navigating the voice prompts. Utilizing the 30 minute screen on control will keep your screen on for 30 minutes (or until you toggle it off). If your call lasts longer than 30 minutes, you can just turn it on again.
