There is really no point to having an offline indicator, since text is not normally real time conversation, like AOL instant messenger or ICQ was. People will text and you can read and respond in your own time. If you don't want to be disturbed by the notifications, do not disturb will turn off notifications. That's the whole point of text messages - people can leave you messages whether or not you are around.

I know this guy who, while at work, is able to activate some setting on his phone that prevents text messages from going through and makes them appear otherwise offline to anyone trying to reach him. Is there a way to activate some similar setting on the s25? So that when people text me or call me, it appears as though those texts don't go through, or anything similar?

Turn on do not disturb. But, there is no indicator in standard messaging apps that let people know whether you are online or offline, because messages sent to you will still end up in your inbox. Facebook messenger and Facebook have an online indicator.

DND will not do the same thing. DND affects if the receiver gets a notification, not the sender.
