[SOLVED] Do You Hear a Short Tone When Outgoing Calls Connect?

With my S26 Ultra I hear a short tone, maybe 2 or 3 notes, when I'm making an outgoing call. I hear the tone just before the number I'm calling starts to ring.

Is this coming from the S26 Ultra - does anyone else hear this?

Or is it possibly coming from my carrier (T-Mobile in the US)?

Go to phone settings > call alerts and ringtones. There are toggles for playing a tone when a call connects and ends.

Sorry, I don't have 'call alerts and ringtones' as a menu item in phone settings. Please note that I am using the Google dialer, not the Samsung dialer.

Hello Sammix, just for clarification, are you going into the actual "Phone" app when trying to locate these settings?

1. Open the Phone app.
2. Tap the More options icon (three vertical dots) in the top right corner.
3. Select Settings.
4. Tap on Call alerts and ringtones.
Locate the toggle for Notify when call answered (sometimes labeled as "Play tone when call connects") and make sure this option is turned off.

Please remember that I am using the native Android phone app. I am not using the Samsung phone app. Three vertical dots do not appear in the top right corner of the app. The app's settings are found in the hamburger menu at the top left.

There is no menu selection for "call alerts and ringtones".

After doing extensive testing and consulting with T-Mobile ... too many steps to list here ... I have come to the conclusion that the 3 short tones I am hearing are most probably some type of call setup indicator.

The actual call setup function producing the indicator tones in question may be performed by my phone, or by T-Mobile, or by some combination of the two, but the tones themselves do seem to be created by the phone rather than by T-Mobile, even though some action on the part of T-Mobile may cause the phone to create the tones in the first place.

The only way to settle this matter - which I do not consider a "problem" but a matter of interest - is to ask other S26 Ultra users if they hear the same tones (which, by the way, I hear with both the Android dialer and the Samsung dialer). If other S26 Ultra users hear the same tones, they are coming from the phone. I did not hear these tones with my S23 Ultra.

If even that is not conclusive, I'll have to experiment with different phones at different mobile carrier stores. Or maybe I'll just forget about it and go ride my bike.

A visit to an AT&T store - where phones are on the AT&T network, presumably - provided the solution.

At the AT&T store, Galaxy S26 phones produced the 3 short tones immediately before the ringer began, but iPhones did not. This shows that the 3 short tones are produced by the phone, perhaps in response to some signal from the carrier.

Note that these 3 short tones are not user accessible.
