Timestamps in group messages?

Hello. Since I have been using Google messages I've noticed that in group chats, the timestamp for each message does not display by default. It'll show when you first get the message, but if you go out of the chat and then back in, the timestamps are hidden. You can only see them by tapping on each specific message. Is there a way to get them to display by default? My general internet searches have not produced the solution.

That is the intended behavior. I am not aware of any way to change that.

No. They only display initially. Once you view the message, you can only see the time stamp by tapping the message. Why would you need it constantly in view? Personally, I prefer it the way it is. As long as you can get to the time stamp if it's needed, why would it matter if it's hidden?

Yup. You can't. That's one of too many reasons I'm not going to use Google Messages. It's a downgrade for sure.

I imagine it serves to unclutter the text feed, yet still have the time stamp available. In group texts, it could get distracting for it to be visible at all times.

I get it, some people want everything at a glance without having to interact with their screens. If this is an important thing for you, might I suggest contacting Google with you wants. If enough people ask, maybe they will make it a setting.

I have been using Google Messages for 13 years with not a single issue. I shall continue to use the same.
