I spent over an hour yesterday on the phone with Samsung Tech support. Gave them access to my phone so they could see the issue first hand. They have no solution, and said maybe AT&T should replace the unit under warranty. AT&T is not going to do that as my discussion with them when I first noticed this issue ended with "contact Samsung". Catch-22 if you get my drift.

Now for the really unsettling point. My wifes phone (which allowed me to change the name) would no longer hook up to her car today via bluetooth. She gave it to me to figure out, and you guessed it, it renamed itself back to the default!!! The car was looking for the name it was paired with when it allowed me to change the name. Now it will not allow me to change the name on the quick share screen, just like my phone.

I suspect all the phones will display this issue at some point when any "share" bluetooth or other is performed. BOO-Hiss

Just some further observations. Name change seems to stick if I set it while in safe mode with Wifi Turned ON. But reboot back in normal mode - and It reverts back. I also disabled Samsung Cloud Backup/Restore - so that does not seem to be the culprit. Running the same software as I did on my S24 Ultra - and used Smart Switch for transfer (So don't think it's anything I'm running - that's changing device name back). Seems that S25 Ultra users may have been complaining about similar problem. Oh well - that's about all I can do to troubleshoot it.

I have the same problem. With one of two phones! The first one I did the smart switch with a cable. It is the viloet phone (not that it should matter) but the second phone I used the backup to a usb drive (must be formatted in exfat) on the old phone, then restored the data to the new phone from the usb drive. That phone does not have the renaming issue!

both old phones were ultra 22's and the software is not the issue. Like you, If I go to quick share and settings, I can change the name, but it never actually updates on the quick share settings screen. It is like there is a policy on the phone preventing the name change.

Factory reset (except esim) did not resolve it. I tried to change the name before acutally resoring the apps, so the phone was basically factory firmware only, still wont change the name.

Samsung so far has been of no help.

BUG: Custom Device Name Reverts to "Galaxy S26 Ultra" After Restart

Device: Galaxy S26 Ultra Issue: The operating system is failing to permanently save custom device names. When I navigate to Settings > About phone and change my device name, it appears to save. However, upon restarting the device, the custom name is forcefully overwritten and reverts back to the factory default "Galaxy S26 Ultra".

Steps to reproduce:

Go to Settings > About phone > Edit.

Enter a new custom name and save.

Restart the phone.

Observe that the name has reverted to the default.

Troubleshooting attempted: I have already tried clearing the cache for Android Auto/Bluetooth apps and renaming the device with Bluetooth disabled. The workaround fails as soon as the phone is rebooted.

Please investigate the background syncing processes (likely tied to Samsung Account sync, Quick Share, or Bluetooth memory) that are overwriting the local device settings and issue a patch.

Thank you, Gokhan

Quick Share won't allow me to change the name. The pop up window is clearly intended to allow a name change, but it doesn't seem to work and stays stuck on the default name (even after changing the name in About Phone). Quite frustrating.

This is a frustrating issue -- never encountered anything like this on my old S21+. I wish Samsung would weigh in, acknowledging the issue and committing to fix it on a reasonable but expedited schedule. Seems as if something like this ought to be escalated since it's frustrating users, an obvious bug, and probably not really difficult to correct for the OS programmers.

The new name does appear on the Bluetooth details screen in a paragraph at the top, sometimes not immediately, but if I page down the list of bluetooth devices concealing the top paragraph, then page back up, the new name appears. But turning Bluetooth off then back on resets the phone's name to the default (as noted in an earlier post, which matches my experience), just as rebooting does. If Samsung won't correct this issue very promptly, I wonder if someone might create a third-party app that pokes in a user-specified name after every reboot and whenever Bluetooth is turned on? Is that possible?

BOO-Hiss
