Can't get gmail icon to show # of email on home screen

I have the new S26ULTRA and I have a problem with my gmail not showing how many unread emails I have from my home screen. Any ideas ? I feel like I tried everything

@Murph1212 Have you applied a custom theme? A lot of those prevent the icons from being updated with the unread count.

Settings > notifications > advanced settings. Tap on "app icon badges" and change it to "number."

I did use a theme from the Samsung store but I always used one with my S25ULTRA. I will try taking it off. Thanks !

Does it even show a dot when you have a new email? Try force stopping Gmail and deleting its cache from the Settings -- Apps -- GMail page and see if that helps.

Hello Murph1212, Welcome to the Samsung Community! I noticed you are having issues with the Gmail icon showing the number of emails. That is frustrating, but I got you through the rest of this process. Have you tried adding it as a widget ? Below I have provided some steps on how to add that.

(1) Open the Gmail App

(2) Add Widget

-Navigate to the Home Screen

-Press and hold until icons jiggle

-tap the + icon, then search Gmail to add widget

(3)Customize widget

-Choose the size of the widget and add it to your home screen.

(4)Set notification preferences: Ensure you receive notifications for new emails to make the most out of the widget. By completing these steps, you’ll be able to place a Gmail icon on your home screen that shows your unread email count. This will give you quick visibility into new messages without needing to open the app. Hopefully this Helps!

Hi, I have tried that too, I just tried changing my battery to show unrestricted, not sure if that is an issue. Thanks

Go to the Playstore uninstall Gmail then hit take update button
