Hello,

I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and found out that everything I copy (including passwords when autofill doesn't function!) were being copied in Samsung Keyboard's clipboard history. This is a major security issue for me!

How can I disable this feature entirely?

Thank you.

Can I ask why this is a security issue for you?

Your clipboard is on device only, you are the only one who has access to it. You can go to settings, type in the search box clipboard, security and privacy and turn on alerts for when your clipboard gets accessed.

This is what I did, I enabled clipboard access notifications and noticed that everything I copy were being pasted by Samsung Keyboard, even though I use Google Keyboard (Gboard). I thought I had installed a spyware somehow! I can't be assured that Samsung Keyboard is not sending this data to the internet. This bothers me very much.

I saw multiple passwords stored inside it, freely available in plain text, while my password manager has an additional lock for accessing passwords. Sometimes autofill is not getting triggered in some apps or websites and I have to manually copy the username and password from my password manager, and it ends up in this clipboard history.

Also this is a privacy issue, if I'd temporarily let a friend see my phone, they could access things that I copied easily. Maybe I'm overthinking this, but if it was disabled it would be solved!

All previous phones I used had this clipboard history disabled by default and I never enabled it for reasons that seem obvious to me. I want to keep it this way. I paid more than $1000 for a phone, I should be able to choose what data it collects.

I think it's outrageous that things you copy to a clipboard in one keyboard ends up being saved in another keyboard's settings. Do you have the clipboard edge panel? I believe that panel is tied to the Samsung keyboard's clipboard. I use GBoard. I just went to check the Samsung keyboard clipboard history and saw so much stuff I never knew was there. I cleared the history which also erased everything on my clipboard edge panel.

If you consider the clipboard history a security issue, you should just get in the habit of clearing the clipboard history regularly by briefly switching to the Samsung keyboard daily and clearing the clipboard. If you don't already have the edge panel, you might want to add it. It makes it much easier to clear the clipboard without having to switch keyboards.

I found an easier way but it is not perfect, I have enabled Edge panels and set it up with only "Clipboard" in Panels. So I can pull this panel from the edge and it has a button "Clear" to delete all items. But I have to do it each time, I didn't find a way to automatically delete items.

It's only a workaround, my need to disable the feature completely still stands. I'm wondering if I can have a way to contact Samsung support for this to put pressure.

The copy history cannot be turned off, but the clipboard can be removed from the edge panel. One has to remember when using the copy and paste feature to go into the Samsung Keyboard and delete the copied contents there and that will remove them, or clear the clipboard in the edge panel flyout. There is no native off toggle for that. I do not use Samsung Keyboard, but IIRC, G-Board has an auto-delete of copied text, etc after 1hr, so does Microsoft's Swiftkey.

The function can be disabled using an ADB to S26 connection from a PC. It would stop the clipboard form showing the copied items. But then the system will only paste the last copy regardless of how many copies were made, because the user will no longer be able to choose an earlier copy since they would be made unviewable.

The clipboard is part of the Samsung keyboard. You have to open an app where the keyboard is present, tap on the clipboard icon on the keyboard toolbar and then clear anything that's on the clipboard. You can add the clipboard edge panel, and clearing the edge panel will clear the clipboard history.

Just as a point of info, while certain passwords or OTP codes may show in the clipboard history, they are pretty useless to someone who finds and reads them unless you use the same password for everything or the finder knows which app or website the password belongs to. OTPs are useless because not only do they expire, also no one would know which site they belonged to. I understand not wanting them to be visible on a clipboard history, though, and I absolutely agree the ability should exist to disable the clipboard history. Google keyboard does not seem to retain the clipboard history, although anything I copy to the clipboard while using Google keyboard does end up in the Samsung keyboard history even if I don't use that keyboard.
