Unacceptable to be locked out of my phone. 16 minutes?

Security is good. This implementation is garbage. I am a teacher and I have my zfold6 in my pocket. I open my phone and find out my pocket was trying to steal my phone.... Now I am locked out because of 17 attempts to open failed. This is unacceptable.

1. My phone is 180 degrees from normal operation

2. If the screen is off, I only use my fingerprint to unlock

3. If it is thinking there is a problem, they need to vibrate or audio alarm.... Better than not letting the owner that spent high $$ on this device not allow usage

4. There really needs to be a way to turn off every security feature that is causing this

From what I have found, I have disabled the 'features' that would have locked me out. Not sure what to look for next. I did turn off the part that almost wiped out my phone the 1st time I was locked out. Next, not sure. If anyone know or has suggestions, I would appreciate it.

You can turn off all security for your device, then it will be unprotected, but you will not need a password, pin, pattern or biometric to get into your phone and you will not be locked out. Also, if you put your phone down anywhere, anyone else can get into it. The lockout period is for your protection in case anyone is trying to guess your password. It gets progressively longer each time you enter the wrong password 5 times without a successful login. It has been this way for a long time, and Samsung is not the only brand that has this policy. If you don't want to disable all security, then be careful when entering your credentials. It's as simple as that.

Hi. So five minutes after posting above, I walked to the office. After that I opened my phone and.... 60 minutes locked out! ARE YOU KIDDING SAMSUNG!! I AM TALKING TO YOU SAMSUNG! Pure unacceptablism (I am making up words I am so disappointed!)

Make sure accidental touch protection is turned on. Turn off double tap to wake. Keep your phone out of your pocket and wear a holster, just like in the old days, or put it in a sheath while in your pocket. Turn on extend unlock to keep your phone unlocked while at your location or create a routine, so you can extend the area up to 1/2 mile range, or keep it unlocked when connected to your facility's wi-fi network.

I do want to disable all the security. I thought I did. I missed something.

And I am totally blaming Samsung but I am kidding with my reaction! I get it. I just don't like being locked out of my phone. I have never had an issue with my phones locking me out. I love my Samsung phones and tablets. Before that, oneplus, essential phone, Motorolas when they were good, droids, Droid x2.... All the way back to 2010. Never had this problem. I will search for every security headache and disable it all. This can not happen again. I use my phone to track my diabetes and I must have access to it.

You make a good point. I know I do not have extended unlock on and I will change that. I bet that will do the trick. Thanks for the help.

If you want to disable all security, go to settings/security and privacy/lock screen and disable your screen lock type and turn off the fingerprint slider. However, the best thing is for you to keep security on and disable the double tap to unlock and/or put your phone in a case that protects the screen from accidental touches. You are a teacher, you know what happens should a student get hold of your phone. Also note that allowing no security, your screen will not lock, and therefor would be subject to running apps with touches from your pocket. You are best off with a routine to keep your phone unlocked while at school. And I have never had a phone that did not have a lockout period. Asus, Motorola, Blu.

Seriously, holsters are making a comeback, and they will protect your phone from pocket activations.

May not be the best idea. Next your phone might be pocket dialing 911 or something while unlocked.

Don't tell me, tell the OP. I firmly believe phones do not belong in pockets and I am an advocate for holsters. They are padded to protect the phone, the phone fits snugly so that it doesn't get jostled or activated accidentally and keeps your phone easily accessible.

I am going to look into a holster as suggested. I created a mode in routine+ that requires a fingerprint to unlock after the screen closes. Seems like it should work fine for me. I will test that out.

If you have 'Accidental Touch Protection' on than your screen should not come on when in a dark place, like your pocket or purse. Ensure that you place your phone in your pocket with the glass against your body as the sensor is on that side. (It's the same sensor that turns your screen off when you hold your phone against your face when taking a call.) Otherwise, if you face the sensor outwards, away from your body, some fabrics will allow enough light through to enable the screen to turn on.

Try this and let us know here how it goes, please.

I just enabled this function. I think I was confusing this function with the one that enables touch sensitivity with screen protector. I had it backwards!

It seems to me that the fingerprint activation may be what's causing your problem in the first place. If you have fingerprint unlock, and the phone is rubbing against things in your pocket, it would seem the fingerprint reader is reading an incorrect fingerprint. A better routine might be to turn off touch sensitivity during your working hours and/or unlock with biometrics (face recognition) (even if you don't normally use face rec.) This way the inside of your pocket and accidental touches won't be misread as a face.

Though I am a self-described science nerd, gamer, and tech geek, my opinion of holsters is up there with pocket protectors, pagers, and glasses held together with tape (No shade).

I have carried my last three phones in my business trousers or loose fitting black shorts and have never had an issue with the screen turning on while it was thus secured.

IMHO, the important thing to have 'Accidental Touch Protection' turn on and remember to place the phone in your pocket so that the glass side is against your body and not facing out.

I'm too old to care what nerdy looks like. I'm more interested in protecting what I paid good money for. And, if they were re-adopted, they wouldn't appear out of place. It also keeps your pockets from developing holes. Not to mention, in loose fitting trousers, it has to feel weird bouncing around.

I had already suggested making sure accidental touch protection was on and turning off screen sensitivity. I don't know if the OP "heard" it, though.

I'm 63 myself. Just don't like things reflecting or making noise. Might be a military thing.
I'm retired now. Wear shorts. Don't wear a belt. At home, I basically move my phone from wireless charging pad to wireless charging pad throughout the house, so my phone is rarely in my pocket. But, you do you. My father always used a holster, so I get it. It's just not for me.

Yes, they heard you. Seems the OP confused features and had the touch sensitivity (to use the phone with a gloved hand) turned on instead.
