Samsung Mail, like Outlook, is only an email client. It's a way to access your email that lives on a Comcast server. If you didn't use an app, you would have to log in through a Comcast portal in a browser, correct? The app, no matter which one you use, is just a means to access and manage your email. You could even use the Gmail app to access your Comcast mail if you wanted.

I have a Samsung Zfold 7 and an Acer laptop running Outlook on Windows 11. I’ve had Samsung Galaxy phones for years. Had a Zfold 3 before the 7. I use Samsung Mail and Samsung Contacts, as they’re obviously convenient.
I’ve used AkrutoSync for years to sync my contacts and calendar. It was the only program I could find when I started with it, but it has always been very cludgy, but now it’s not working, and they haven’t been very helpful.

What do you folks use to sync contacts and calendars? Please understand when/if you answer that I'm not particularly tech savvy. So terminology that is probably obvious to you may well just be jargon to me.

I personally use Gmail and Google Calendar/Contacts, so data is always cloud synced.

Back in the day (Palm & BlackBerry devices), I used CompanionLink to sync data. I think they're still around.

EDIT: They are, indeed, still around.
https://www.companionlink.com/

If you access your Comcast email with Outlook, CompanionLink can sync your computer with your phone.

I'm genuinely confused about why you need to sync anything. Isn't the Comcast account accessible through Samsung Mail?

I'm confused. Is Samsung Mail supposed to sync automatically with Comcast and Outlook? if so, I don't know how it's supposed to work. AkrutoSync uses Microsoft Exchange. But it seems to have frequent problems, perhaps because I use Comcast. It would be very difficult for me to use any other email address, since that's what I use to register to online services.

Guess what I was trying to get across, not too clearly, is that I've run into problems with Comcast, AkrutoSync and Outlook and I was never sure "who's on first." I've had the sense however that Comcast sometimes simply doesn't play well with Outlook.

It probably wouldn't make a difference, but I'm open to using another calendar and/or contact program on my laptop, or a different calendar and/or contact app on my phone if it would facilitate syncing and provide a smooth transition. The thing that seems to me would be the hardest for me to convert away from is the comcast email address. Just didn't explain that very well.

I understand what you're saying about the email address. Is your calendar only in Outlook and that's why you've been using the sync software to get it on your phone? Would you be opposed to using a cloud-based calendar, like Google? The data wouldn't live on your device(s) but would be on a Google server that you can access from any device.

Use Google Calendar and move your contacts to Google. You will be able to access your contacts from any device logged into your Google account. You contacts will also be available to Samsung calendar, if you prefer that one. You can sync the calendars and use both, either/or.

Thanks for the suggestion nullandvoid. I'm not very tech savvy. Would you mind telling me how I'd go about moving data to Google, and is there anything I need to do after I move the data to get it to sync? Is it automatic? Or does it need a push?

Open the contacts app. Tap the dot menu and select settings. Look for "move contacts to other storage location. Choose from where you want the contacts moved and the contacts then select where to move them to.

You don't need to do anything after that. Your default contact location should now be Google, however, if it's mot, you can select it. You may already have some or all of your contacts in Google as the sync is automatic.

No worries. Sounds to me like the syncing is largely unnecessary. I think the cloud-based calendar is your best bet. Post back (maybe make a new post) if you have other questions. Good luck!
