ZFold 7 RUINED by One UI 8.5

Samsung completely ruined my experience on the ZFold7.

I am old with poor eyesight. The OneUI 8.5 update removed full-width display of the phone dialer and text messages. These are now displayed in tiny pop-out windows or half-screen windows.

Now I have to squint to barely read a window that uses a fraction of the available screen width. Or when the text is large enough for my eyes to read, it's constrained in a tiny narrow column.

Same goes for the notification shade! Why can't this use the full width of the screen??? The only way to read a notification content is to open it. Because the window is so narrow that the preview only shows 2-3 words.

Samsung better fix this or else the Fold loses half of it's usefulness. Can I roll back to 8.0?

Sorry, but after an update is done, it is imposible to revert back to the old OS ( technically, if your in 8.5, you cant go back to 8.0 )

@dicynodont I'm sorry that you don't like the changes. Sorry but it is not possible to roll back to a previous OS version.

You could submit feedback on each item to the developers using the Samsung Members app -> Support -> Send feedback. You should do a separate one for each item that you want to report.

I have the Fold 7 as well, running 8.5 and my dialer is the same as before, but you can now resize some screens for multi-tasking.

Try this...

Open the phone app,
then open the running app screen,
then tap the icon in the lower right.
Choose -'full screen'.

Perhaps you are using the Google Phone dialer?

Please update your post with a screenshot of the issue.

That doesn't look to be the SAMSUNG Phone app to me.

I showed your screenshot to Gemini and got this information.

Try these:

To close the pop-up view and return the app to its normal full-screen layout, you can use the control bar at the very top of the floating window.

## Option 1: Expand Back to Full Screen

1. Look at the small horizontal bar at the top center of the pop-up window.
2. Tap that horizontal bar to open its window control menu.
3. Tap the Full Screen icon (two diagonal arrows pointing away from each other).

## Option 2: Drag to Full Screen

1. Press and hold the horizontal bar at the top of the pop-up window.
2. Drag the window all the way to the top edge of your screen.
3. Release your finger when the screen highlights to snap it back into full-screen mode.

If the app closes entirely instead of expanding, you can just reopen the Phone app from your home screen or app drawer, and it will launch normally in full screen.
Would you like to know how to prevent apps from opening in pop-up view by accident, or do you need help navigating any other One UI multitasking features?

It's the only Phone app on my phone and I haven't installed external dialers.

I already tried to find the horizontal bars typical in popup windows. There is no such thing on this dialer app

Try this...

Switch to Standard View

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Select Display.

3. Tap Screen layout and zoom.

4. Select Standard view to disable the split-column mode for system apps.

Ok this standard view makes it large again, but I miss having the multi column view + large dialer in OnuUI 8.0

It's not better. Going to "standard mode" breaks many other things designed for the larger inner display. It's in not a viable solution

Hardly, given that I use my phone for work and make calls and check notifications dozens of times per day. It's significantly more difficult to do that now.
