What are the raid settings in the bios set to ? Have you used third party software to format and partition the drive? Windows sometimes does not see new drives installed, initialization seems to absent assigning a drive letter etc.

Cheers
3Fees

When I install my Samsung 990 Pro SSD into my M.2_2 slot It's recognised by my BIOS but when I go to "Computer Management" and initialise the disk then add a volume, it disappears and goes offline shortly after making it. When putting it into the M.2_1 slot It just isn't recognised at all by the BIOS.

Regardless, the SSD seems to be fully responsive, I can even change the LED from the Samsung Magician app, all tests on the disk seem to be up fine.

Here are the things I have tried:

Using the Samsung app to check the health of the drive (all tests say it's fine)

Updating all drivers and updating the BIOS

Returning the SSD and buying a new one (same issues)

Using "diskpart" to online the disk

Creating a simple GPT volume (deletes after a few moments)

Trying a different M.2 slot

and many more...

My PC specs:

MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus Motherboard ATX

Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4060 EAGLE OC ICE 8GB

Ryzen 7 5700G

32GB DDR4

750W PSU

Sorry I think I’m misunderstanding, “Sata Mode” is the title, the two options are AHCI mode, and RAID Mode. Which one should I have enabled?

Minitool Partition Wizard Free is a good one.

What I do is use clean disk part of the menu to delete partitions and wipe the ssd writing Zeros "0" to the entire drive, this makes sure the ssd or disk is clean then select partition and format the drive ntfs. Minitool will align the drive in the partition and format processes.
Windows will recognize the drive and assign a drive letter on boot up.
Cheers
3Fees

Okay, so I used MiniTool to clean the drive (set to zero’s). I then used converted it to GPT, then rebooted. The disk showed in file explorer, I then used Macrium Reflect to copy my “System” partition to my new drive. After that it was no longer visible in file explorer, but the drive was still visible on the MiniTool app. So I decided to just restart and try to boot up from my new drive and my PC blue-screened. Twice.
thanks for your advice though 3Fees

Use Samsung Data Migration software to transfer operating system and your programs to Samsung 980 nvme drive, no blue screen, good to go. Sounds like Macrium reflect failed to copy hidden system files. I now use a different backup program than reflect much faster and better.

Cheers
3Fees
