I'm in college and didn't bring a tv to my dorm, instead i only brought a monitor. I bought an HMDI converter for the Wii and when I hooked it up it did not display instead it showed a thing saying "not optimum mode recommended mode 1920x1080 60hz" I've tested the converter and it works on my roommate's tv. but it won't work for my monitor. the converter says it scales the Wii 480p resolution to 1080p HD devices for better viewing. I've tried using my laptop to set the resolution lower on the monitor then switch the HDMI cables back to the Wii and that didn't work either. I's there anyway to bypass the optimum mode

The monitor's resolution is set by the device it is connected to, not internal settings in the monitor.

It sounds like your monitor is not compatible with what the converter is feeding it.

A little Net surfing gave reports that the Portholic and Autoutlet EFU042 adapters may be worth a try with the monitor. No guarantees though.

The easy solution without a lot of grief and hair pulling is a small TV such as is sold at BestBuy, Walmart, Target, Amazon and a host of other stores. Prices start around $60.

Good luck.

Hello! Thank you for reaching out! This is a compatibility issue, as most monitors will have problems like this. It would be recommended to use a TV with an HDMI converter.
