Yes, there were 2 security update/ update for windows (KB5050411) and (KB5049621).

Uninstall of security update KB5050411 cannot get rid of BSOD when magdrvamd64.sys is in place.

KB5049621 cannot be uninstalled, so I cannot test its potential conflict with magdrvamd64.sys.

Anyway, there must be some crashes between the magdrvamd64.sys with the system. Hope there is way to uninstall / replace Samsung Magician.

Windows BSOD due to Samsung Magician

My laptop (Windows 10) equipped with Samsung SSD 990 PRO 4TB got into BSOD after a restart.

It rebooted automatically after BSOD and I later managed to capture the Stop code by taking video...

"Stop code: SYSTEM SERVICE EXCEPTION

What failed: magdrvamd64.sys"

All windows built-in repair steps have been tried but all failed and the BSOD kept looping. The repair tool said it couldn't repair it and just asked me to reset the windows....

Finally, after I captured the Stop code, I got into the command prompt and renamed the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Samsung\Samsung Magician\magdrvamd64.sys" to "magdrvamd64_xxx.sys".

Restarted the laptop and a miracle occurred!!! It booted into windows 10 successfully with no BSOD!!! Expectedly, the Samsung Magician cannot be opened since the magdrvamd64.sys was removed, an error also appeared in event viewer.

An update message of Samsung Magician ver 8.2 was shown after I got into windows again. When I tried to repair it by updating ver 8.1 to 8.2, it returned to the BSOD again..... and was rescued again by renaming the "magdrvamd64.sys". When I tried to uninstall Samsung Magician in Setting > App, it failed with error message "The setup files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."

My questions are:

1. The Samsung Magician software seems to be the cause of BSOD? Any bugs found?

2. How to repair/uninstall the Samsung Magician?

Thank you!

If the laptop or PC lacks the recommended hardware, these things could happen, but you can use Rufus to perform a clean install of Windows, skipping the system requirements check. I used this to install Windows 11 on a 2013 laptop, and it worked perfectly. If this does not work, you may have a hardware problem; in this case, try changing the storage unit, and it should be fine

The Kilozva for your suggestions.

However, if possible, I would like to keep my current system as it is pretty stable except the fatal error due to magdrvamd64.sys

Hope there is uninstaller for Samsung Magician software or a fix will be released.

Did you do any other updates before this happened or was this a random restart. I would think there is a option to uninstall the program might look for way to report the issue

Install Magician again and exit out of the install WITHOUT RUNNING it.

Immediately uninstall it.

Hello sc0083 ,

For your issue, you can try a third party uninstaller software, Such as Revo uninstaller.

Using a third party uninstaller like Revo, may help make sure that all files / History related to the Magician software is completely removed from Windows. Once all files have been removed, this will help make sure there is no corruption still within the OS from previous versions of the software.

In your case, I believe there maybe some history left over from a previous version that is causing the errors.

There are a lot of Windows 10 and 11 users using Samsung Magician 8.2 at this point, if this is a bug in Magician itself, I would believe the majority of users would show your symptoms as well.
