Today Samsung released the latest firmware version 6B2QJXD7 for Samsung 990 Pro SSDs. I tried to upgrade my 990 Pro to the latest firmware using Samsung Magician. However, every time I click on update I get an error message that reads: Failed to update firmware on selected drive. What is going on here? Windows 11 is detecting my SSD and the drive has no issues.

I tried updating the firmware via USB boot with the ISO file but I get a message that reads: "No supported SSD detected for firmware update." Does anyone know what the issue could be?

Even the slightest communication issue, may cause the firmware update to fail.

If possible, are you able to provide a screenshot of the "Drive details" option in Samsung Magician for further review ?

I solved the issue!!! Apparently Samsung Magician doesn't act right if your SATA mode is in RAID. I booted into safe mode, went into my bios, switched the SATA mode from RAID to AHCI, and now I'm not having any issues. Magician recognizes my drive now. For some strange reason the latest update for the 990 Pro no longer appears in updates. Maybe Samsung is working on a new update or something. I'm just glad I was able to do this without installing Windows 11 which would be a pain in the rear. Thank you for all your responses.

I had the same problem with my 2TB 990 Pro with Heatsink and the latest Samsung Magician and Windows 11. It said I had the latest firmware, even though it was version 5B2QJXD7.

I then used Rufus and built a bootable USB stick with the ISO file "Samsung_SSD_990_PRO_6B2QJXD7.iso"

I booted from my USB stick and it updated to the latest firmware 6B2QJXD7.

https://download.semiconductor.samsung.com/resources/software-resources/Samsung_SSD_990_PRO_6B2QJXD7.iso
