I guess I'm confused. How does a monitor work perfectly fine for several months all of a sudden not work well. And it's because it needs a firmware update?

I left my (Samsung odyssey g70b) on overnight. When I came into my office it looked weird. I can't describe it any other way. Like the task bar is flickering up and down the screen. Any ideas?

That looks like the GPU of your computer and not the monitor display I can see the taskbar on the desktop screen I'm not sure if it's your monitor but I think it might be your GPU

I have two monitors and one is working fine. I switched connectors to see if it affected the other monitor and it did not. Not sure what else to try at this point.

Hi @sauve1028, welcome to the Samsung Community!
We know it’s frustrating to turn on your setup and see the screen acting up.
Based on what you’re describing, this is usually related to refresh rate, Adaptive Sync, or the display signal on the Odyssey G70B.
Here are some quick troubleshooting steps to try:

Set refresh rate to 60 Hz (Windows > Display > Advanced display)
Turn off Adaptive Sync / G‑Sync (monitor menu + GPU control panel)
Power cycle the monitor (unplug for 2 minutes)
Reseat or try a different DisplayPort cable, or test HDMI
Factory reset the monitor (Menu > Support > Reset)
Give these steps a try and let us know if it helps.

Also, if the flicker shows in the monitor’s own menu, it may be firmware or hardware related. Let us know your GPU and connection type so we can assist you further.

I did all those things, to no avail.

Every time I try to do a firmware update, it asks for a disk. I don't have any disks for hit monitor. Right now it's a boat anchor, of now use to me.

Thank you for getting back to us with what you've tried, sauve1028. We are sorry to hear that didn't work. The firmware for the monitor would need to be updated with a USB drive and can be downloaded from https://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/. The USB drive needs to be formatted for FAT, FAT32 or NTFS and once you have the file downloaded, extract and download the upload file to the root directory of the USB drive, and this file should be the only file on the USB drive.

The User Manual for your model should have instructions for updating the software on your monitor.

You can also check that the device drivers on your computer are up-to-date.

If these steps don't resolve the flickering on the screen, service may be needed.

If service is needed, please feel free to reach out to any moderator with a private message. You can also go Online at https://www.samsung.com/us/support/service/ or contact Customer Support at 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864).

For all of these options, you'll want to have this info handy:

Model Number
Serial Number
First and Last Name
Best Contact phone number
Address where the unit is located
Email address

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Hi sauve1028, we apologize for any confusion. Keeping your firmware up to date is important, as regular updates include essential security patches, bug fixes, and performance improvements that can enhance visual quality and overall device stability.
Have you had a chance to try updating the monitor via USB as previously suggested?

Hi sauve1028, thank you for getting back to us. Since you previously mentioned that the monitor displays an error requesting a disk when attempting to update the firmware wirelessly, a USB update will likely be necessary. I’m happy to look into this further for you. If you can provide the full model code, I can help identify the USB port and guide you through the update process to determine whether a service repair may be needed

I didn't know it was possible, until I messed with the onscreen menu. I noticed an update option so I tried it. and It said my monitor was up to date. But I don't know if that means the firmware is up to date. Model number is: s28bg702en.

Thank you so much for the model number. It appears the current firmware version for your monitor is 1664.4. If this is the version appearing when the monitor states it is up-to-date; it would be accurate and correct.
