I have the latest Magician version installed (9.0.1) which detects an update for 990 Pro ssd.

But it fails to update it regardless of secure boot turned on or off (the recommendation that i saw in similar post)

Bootable usb with the same driver version also fails to install. And it acts even more strangely. It exits during updating without an error silently. Driver code is literally the same.

SSD is detected in task manager as NVMe. And BIOS on current laptop does not have a SATA/NVMe switch. (again existing recommendation did not help troubleshooting)

What am I missing?

Ok, i found the solution. The root cause was that VMD option was hidden in bios. I disabled it temporarily, updated the firmware from ubs, re-enabled VMD and booted to windows again.

VMD prevents Magician and bootable usb to communicate with SSD directly.

on acer i used crtl+s on Main tab in bios to make that option visible.

I encountered a similar problem recently, and after some troubleshooting, I finally solved it. Here's my approach for your reference:

Initially, I tried updating directly within the system using Magician, but it kept failing. Later, I switched to the official bootable USB method, but it still got stuck during the update process.

Here's how I solved it:

First, check the connection method: If it's installed in the motherboard's M.2 slot, try not to update via an adapter card or external enclosure.

Disable some interfering functions: I had BitLocker running, and pausing encryption before updating made it much smoother.

BIOS settings: Keep the storage mode at the default (usually AHCI), and don't enable RAID. I once had RAID mode enabled, and the firmware tool failed to recognize it.

Update environment: I recommend recreating the bootable USB. My first USB drive had a problem; after using a different USB drive and rewriting the image, it worked.

Stable power supply: For laptops, it's best to plug them in. I tried battery mode, and it also failed.
