Question about the 7 years OS updates on our devices?

I have a question about the 7 years of OS updates. Now that Android 15 will not be released until 2025, does this mean we will now only get 6 OS updates with it being delayed?

One wonders if this was purposely done to save money?

I believe when Samsung says you will have 7 years of updates, they do not actually mean seven calendar years, they mean seven corresponding releases of updates.

Think you mean ui 7 next year I have seen no mention that android 15 is delayed or not being released this year

Ui 7 is Android 15, as is Ui 6 is Android 14. One Ui (insert number) is the skin that Samsung puts on Android.

The S24 was released with Android 14 and the S25 will be released with Android 15. They'll stop getting updates 7 years after.

@Oxford They absolutely mean 7 calendar years of updates and Security patches. The norm for Samsung lately is release a new device in January with the .1 version of One Ui. The previous years models are running the 0 version of One Ui. Example: 24 series was released with One Ui 6.1 while the S23 series was already on One Ui 6.0. By now releasing One Ui 7.0 in January for the S24 series with the S25 series shipping with 7.1 the S24 series will be short changed one version of the OS.

Is this making any sense to you

For one android updates come from Google ui comes from Samsung they are separated

I suspect that after even 'just' 6 years, your phone battery and other hardware will be so outdated that you'll be eager to get a new one anyway.
I imagine after 3 years or so, you'll avoid updates to not have to endure the increased software overhead of added features.

@meself Yes, Android comes from Google, One Ui is the “SKIN” Samsung puts on Android. Each One Ui new release corresponds with a new version of Android.

One Ui7 = Android 15 next version!

One Ui6 = Android 14 currently version !

Open your settings and go to about phone, software.

@officialguy Yes, I get that. I personally am a SERIAL UPGRADER.

BTW You do that batteries are replaceable? That one is a moot point.

My point is by releasing Android 15 in 2025 it means one less OS update for those that hang on to their phones forever.

OS updates are not measured by years, it's by Generations, but Security is measured by years
