Password reset keeps messing up

When tryingnto reset my son Samsung password due to him putting it in wrong to many times its asking for the phone number. But when I type it in, its adding symbols automatically. Then the thing says numbers only so I cant move forward, but i can't delete the dashes and stuff and im not adding the symbols. How do I fix this. Its a part of the 2 factor authentication on the Samsung account.

Are you trying to reset the account password from the phone or from a computer? I would try to reset it from a computer, or at least a web browser on the phone, rather than from the Samsung account. Are you trying to enter the phone number or authentication code via the keyboard number row or the number pad alternate screen on the keyboard?
