Are you completely satisfied with using apps like WhatsApp and Meet knowing the experience could be better?

Many apple users are switching, and when they switch Samsung is usually that android they buy into. A lot of what keeps them over there is the lack of a facetime equivalent app.

If you've used both Facetime and Google Meet, its clear that Google Meet is more optimized for buisness conferences than the everyday conversation, in my opinion.

Samsung’s One UI delivers a beautiful cohesive experience, but everyday video communication still relies on third-party apps like Google Meet that aren’t designed for casual, personal use, creating a gap in the Galaxy ecosystem.

Samsung can solve this with a native video calling platform built around One UI, deeply integrated with core apps, optimized for simple 1 on 1 and group calls, and enhanced with expressive features like AR Emoji, screen sharing, and reliable call performance.

Done right, this would elevate daily communication, strengthen ecosystem loyalty, and become a defining part of the Galaxy experience.

We Need Native Video Calling!

I’m writing to propose an opportunity to further strengthen the One UI ecosystem.

Samsung has built a highly cohesive and recognizable user experience, supported by both its own apps and key integrations from Google. However, there is a noticeable drop in consistency when we have to rely on certain third-party apps. For example, Google Meet.

While Google Meet is effective for professional conferencing, it falls short in casual, everyday communication. On Samsung devices, this creates a gap. Users lack a native, intuitive solution for personal video calling and instead settle for tools not designed for that experience.

Samsung is uniquely positioned to effectivly address this.

A native video calling platform, designed with the same care as One UI, could elevate communication across Galaxy devices while reinforcing ecosystem loyalty. By focusing on seamless integration and the One Ui design, Samsung could create a solution that feels distinctly its own.

Key opportunities include:

Deep integration with the Contacts, Messages, and Phone apps.

A unified, natural interface aligned with One UI

A design optimized for 1 on 1 calls, with effortless scaling to group conversations

Expressive features leveraging Samsung’s emojis, ARmojis and visual language

Built-in screen sharing

Reliable, unrestricted call durations

There is an opportunity to enhance everyday communication, strengthen user experience, and further differentiate Samsung’s ecosystem. With the right execution, such a platform could become a defining feature of the Galaxy experience, even extending its appeal beyond Samsung devices.

Google Meet is the native video calling platform on Samsung devices and is deeply integrated with core apps such as the dialer and Google Messages (the default messaging app for Samsung devices.) It is optimized for both 1-on-1 and group calls and offers reliable call performance.

If I'm not mistaken, you should be able to use AR emoji via Samsung's video effects, which integrates into various video calling apps.

As a Samsung user, you should expect to use at least some Google applications as default apps because One UI is built on Android, a Google product. Learn more about the relationship between Samsung and Google here: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Samsung-Apps-and-Services/Why-is-there-so-much-Google-in-my-Samsung/td-p/3464924?src=ShareByUserCM

Beyond this, the Members community is a user-to-user tech support forum. You can only reach peer users by posting here.

To reach someone at Samsung and make feature requests, you will need to use the Members app on a Galaxy device, visit the support tab, and navigate to "send feedback."

Here's the issue as I see if. If you use WhatsApp for video calls, then all parties have to have WhatsApp. Same with every third party app. If Samsung had their own video chat, then it would be the same. Everyone in the chat would have to have a Samsung phone running One UI.

Now ask yourself, how many of your friends thar have an iPhone would be willing to ditch it for a Samsung phone just so they could video chat with you?

At least with Google Meet you can video chat with other users that don't use One UI, even iPhone users that have the Meet app.

I understand what place Google Meet holds as of now in the Samsung experience, but I think there is room for major improvement.

We've been spoiled with One UI, which yes, is based on Android, but nearly overhauls everything it can to make our phones feel like Samsung phones.

The one on one call experience just feels clunky in comparison to the rest of the phone. I simply feel theres opportunity for Samsung to improve the ecosystem with a original and native video calling app, from them, that extends over all of their phones, tablets, laptops, and appliances with front facing cameras. That experience would mesh well.

When Google Messages replaced Samsung Messages it implemented change in ways that benefited users as a whole. I just personally Google Meet is subpar to everything else in the Android experience let alone Samsung, which arguably, is the face of Android.

You are proposing that Samsung develop a proprietary infrastructure exclusively for Samsung-to-Samsung device communication, akin to Apple's FaceTime. This initiative is highly improbable due to several factors. In the United States, iPhones hold a dominant market share of 69%, significantly outpacing Samsung's 22%. This disparity renders a cross-platform solution impractical for the majority of the market. Google Meet offers a viable alternative, provided iPhone users install the application. This issue is primarily localized to the U.S.; globally, third-party applications like WhatsApp are widely adopted, boasting 3.3 billion daily users.

Furthermore, financial considerations present a substantial barrier. Samsung is unlikely to invest hundreds of millions of dollars to cater to a demand largely confined to the U.S. market.

Furthermore, since you are on the Android platform, which is owned by Google, their app, Google Meet is not a 3rd party app. Any app that is "MADE" by Google is considered 1st party, FULLSTOP!

FaceTime is excellent, and little things like transitioning an audio call to a video call without ending the audio call are REALLY nice.

But the platform exclusivity is regressive and anti-competitive.
Samsung has spent billions on Ai features majority of us dont even use.

They can spare some money to fight to win over the iPhone users they also spend billions of money creating ads and commercials saying they are better than.

it wouldn't be a bad investment to have something so integrated with samsung devices that through ever one with a front facing camera: phone, tablet, laptop, etc. could connect users SEAMLESSLY rather than through a app only experience.

Having meets app pop up in the contacts app as a button and show up in recent calls is not enough.

There is room for innovation on the user experience side and definitely room for Samsung not to create a "walled-garden," but a connected space with all users that will serve as an OPTIONAL (since Google meet still will exist) defense to their competitors in every market.

The video calling app doesnt necessarily need to be a lock-in style experience.

Although, I do believe it is competitive, especially if paired with a easily accessible option of Google meet still existing. The Samsung app could just be an app that works for all devices but does better with Samsung ones.

There are already apps like that that exist. Having a app that enhances our calling experience as our customization, calling, note taking, navigating, and overall usability has been enhanced by the One UI operating skin has done, will only be in line with that vision.

I do not want an Apple style experience. Samsung has simply just set a trend of giving android users a better experience on most fronts on their phones and I know a native Samsung-made video calling app would do just that.

Interesting perspective. I would not expect to ever see it happen.

It would be fiscally unwise for Samsung to dump extensive resources into maintaining dedicated servers for video calling when a native cross-platform option that essentially costs them $0 already exists.
