Software Updates Inquiry

Genuine question, why does it take Samsung the time frame that it doesnt in order to release major software updates? I understand that there's a beta process that entails bug fixes, etc. I'm learning more about the UI and wanted a broader reasoning.

Samsung first gets the Android source from Google and then adds the One UI skin to it. One UI is the most heavily modified of all Android skins. They have to perform internal testing on many different model lines (as opposed to Apple's handful of models). Then they proceed to public beta testing for a limited number of model lines. All of this adds time to the release schedule. Stable builds are released to individual mobile carriers, who perform their own testing, and finally roll out the updates to their customers.

Hoping to have the UI 8.5 stable update soon. We are on 7th iteration of 8.5 Beta test at the moment.

Beta 8 is just around the corner, so no stable yet.

Hoping 8 is released in the next few days and will get us closer to a stable version release much quicker. I believe this is the longest running Beta test I've been involved in so far.

As @meself said, it looks like the beta may be extended to other models. If that happens, it will push out the stable release even further.

And that's a good thing. The more testing, the fewer bugs in the final release.
