Much like we can hide some of our favorite apps from the homescreen settings. Thing is with the private folder you have to unlock it each time you use it.

Secure folder is the only way to hide xxx pics, videos, and other content from prying eyes, unless you choose to use a 3rd party app from google play store.

You can create special albums and hide albums that you don't want to show in Gallery.

As someone's else said you can hide albums, I do it too but it's annoying 🙄 So many steps and scrolling each time 😭. You just click on the three dots on the top right, then "hide albums" Then you can scroll through and hide any albums you wish. It will make them dissappear from the main gallery feed as well.
