Can someone help me to disable system shortcuts on a physical keyboard settings?

Hello,

I just got my physical bluetooth keyboard 2 days ago and I came across only one problem while playing Minecraft on Tab S7 FE and clicking on ESCAPE button, the problem is I cannot turn off or changing the system shortcut on physical keyboard settings, although I've tried pinning the apps but it not only blocks the system shortcut but also blocks the clicks on my phisycal keyboard to the apps

If someone could help me or bypass this that would be great.

If you are having issues with the shortcuts, it's advisable to contact the manufacturer of the keyboard, or look for a manual or driver for the keyboard. It may require an additional driver for those shortcuts to work. Also, on my BT keyboard, some settings functions do not work unless I have plugged the keyboard into the USB port on my computer in order to access those settings through the keyboard app and configure them, since my keyboard is usable on both a computer or phone and it's "gaming" keyboard. After they are configured, they are usable in BT mode. On my mini BT keyboard, there is a Fn key to choose between Android, Windows or IOS for the proper commands, and they all work. Perhaps your keyboard has a similar way of working.

That's a good idea, AAbbott. Thank you for sharing this. I can understand where you are coming from, Starlian. This would be extremely annoying to deal with while playing the game. Because Android treats the Escape key on physical keyboards as a system-wide "Back" command, standard settings will not let you toggle this off. The only thing I can think of that may work, is Remapping the Caps Lock Key.
If your keyboard has a dedicated key remapping feature in the Samsung settings, you can change a different key (like Caps Lock) to act as your Escape key.

1) Open Settings on your Tab S7 FE.
2) Go to General Management > Physical Keyboard.
3) Tap on Change Modifier Keys.
4) Set Caps Lock (or another unused key) to function as Escape.
5) Inside Minecraft, use that new key to open your menu.

Unfortunely my keyboard doesn't have a key remapping feature since my keyboard use a fixed, plug-and-play layout..

On your first solution, unfortunately my keyboard doesn't have a remapping feature.

On your second solution, I managed to find another way to make the ESC button not close the apps: by changing the ESC button settings in the customize keys to 'Back'. This changes how the button works by only executing the command within the app and not the system shortcut. This solution works!

Hello, so I've decided to revert this reply as it is not a solution because this solution may not necessarily work.

On my first attempt, I managed to fix this issue by luck.

But on my second or third try, when I tried to connect the Bluetooth keyboard, the issue occurred again. After trying to tick the customize keys button while restarting my Bluetooth keyboard, unpairing my Bluetooth keyboard, and restarting my Tab S7 FE over and over, I managed to fix it.

However, on my fourth attempt or my fifth attempt, it seems that the issue occurred again and I haven't been able to fix it even though Esc button on Customize keys section was set to Back. I assume the issue was fixed by pure luck, so I want to make this post to see if there's a permanent solution to my problem.

As suggested, try contacting the manufacturer of the keyboard. When I got my keyboard, it came with a very tiny manual that told me basically nothing. When I went to the manufacturer's website, I found a more extensive user guide and the settings program to download. Your manufacturer may have a similar website. Certain settings and key mapping/functions can only be accessed when the keyboard is connected to the computer via USB and then the settings app opened. After the settings are adjusted and the keys are mapped to their function, the functions stay the way they were set when the keyboard goes back to being used via BT (or wireless - my keyboard works three ways)

My keyboard is a GROTIC keyboard manufactured in China by third-party contract manufacturers for the brand, and I haven't been able to find the manufacturer's website.

If anyone could help with the key mapping settings, that would be great.

I'm afraid that if the manufacturer has no function for remapping and the physical keyboard settings are not working for you, you will either have to find another keyboard or live with the limitations of the one you have.

You mentioned that remapping the key in the phone settings initially worked and then stopped working. Have you tried clearing the cache from the settings or system UI apps?

I just tried clearing the cache on both the System UI app and the Settings app, then restarted the device, but it still didn’t work.

Hello, I think I managed to find a repeatable solution. By using Key Mapper from the Play Store, I can remap the Esc key from functioning as the Home button to the Go Back navigation button. I did this by recording the Esc key as the Trigger while my Bluetooth keyboard was connected, then setting the Actions to “Go Back” navigation. After that, I enabled this Trigger and Actions.

Glad you found a solution that works for you. And now you found the whole reason that third party apps exist - to do things that native apps don't do. Ideally, the keyboard (which looks like it cost some $$$) should have come with the drivers to do just that.
