I used to connect both my 4 and 6 series TVs just fine on my Smrt things, but now when I do, the devices go on and offline every few seconds and can never allow me to use the remote feature to control them. It allows me to mirror from my device, when it appears online, but not use the other features. Is this perhaps due to some recent update? One is connected by ethernet cable, while the other is to my WiFi.

Hi there @Cherna90 and thank you for reaching out!  It very well could be because of a recent update.  We do suggest making sure that everything is on the same network. How recently this trouble begin?  Here is a link with some information that will help with the television connected via the ethernet port:

I usually also suggest from personal experience if certain devices that you use often are constantly disconnecting, make them a priority device on your network.  That will stop the disconnecting troubles.
