trying to connect an old home theatre system to the smart TV but i cannot figure out why it isnt working, trying to get audio to go from the tv to the home theatre system and ive tried optical audio and composite audio AUX and now got no idea what else to try, went into settings on the tv and switched the audio output to optical audio and to hdmi receiver, can get the receiver to output picture to the TV, sadly dont have another optical audio cord to test, any tips here would be awesome and im hoping these things can work or i can find some sort of workaround

parents had bought the home theatre system with an LG TV and it was working together then but since the LG tv has died

was told in another forum to go into the TVs audio settings and change the digital output audio format and change it to PCM but that didnt work sadly

Is the audio you're using a format that the receiver supports?

was using spotify on the tv trying to get the audio into the surround sound

sadly no, just tried YouTube, antenna tv and the samsung internet channels and it doesnt work, changed the sound to optical and went into the expert settings and changed it to pcm and still doesnt work, the optical cable still shines a red light through it so unsure if the cable is the reason or if its not compatible, just dont get why it isnt working sure the sound system is a lot older then the tv, dont know what else to try at the moment

Does the sound work through the TV speakers?

tv speakers does work, if you meant if the receiver can send sound to the tv i will have to test that, have gotten picture before when HDMI was plugged in

No I just wanted to see if the sound worked anywhere. Does the receiver produce sound independently? Like through FM radio? I'm trying to narrow things down.

yes the radio produces hiss (no antenna) also able to use a phone connected with an AUX cable for sound (iphone using spotify)

And it doesn't work using hdmi on the TV either?
