Critical system issue – apps relaunch after any interruption

Hello,

I would like to report a serious system issue on my Galaxy A16 (SM-A165F-DS), which has appeared recently and seems to be getting worse.

In general, whenever an application is sent to the background — even briefly — it relaunches instead of resuming from its previous state.

In the majority of cases (around 95%), the originally opened app restarts as if it had been closed by the system.

This behavior occurs in many common scenarios:

– opening another app on top,

– displaying a permission or system picker,

– importing content (for example, selecting an image),

– changing the wallpaper: after selecting an image, the app restarts from the beginning,

– returning from an external activity.

Instead of resuming normally, the app loses its context and restarts from scratch, making multitasking and normal usage practically impossible.

This problem did not occur before and seems to have appeared or worsened recently, suggesting a regression related to One UI or memory/activity management (RAM / Android activities).

Battery optimizations have been disabled and memory cleared, with no improvement.

This malfunction affects all applications and does not seem to be related to a specific app, but rather to the system behavior.

Thank you for looking into this issue.

This is normal behavior.  Apps (programmed by the individual app developers, not Samsung), time out after a period of inactivity.  This includes being in standby in the background.  This is by design so that background apps do not eat into your battery usage. You may not have noticed it previously because you returned to an app within a period of time where the app has not yet timed out.

I'd hardly call it a critical issue.  If it's that important to you that an app not time out, and you want to temporarily switch to another app, I suggest opening both apps in split screen view.

Yes, I know about that, but the problem is the timing, because even after just a second of use, the application closes automatically, and that's what's a shame. For example, I can't change my wallpaper because when I come back from the gallery, it restarts automatically, even if I try to go there as quickly as possible. So I consider this a critical problem because it's gotten worse.

Ok.  Put in an error report.  I think some third party app or lack of maintenance may be at issue here.  Have you cleaned the phone's cache partition?  Do you do it after every update?  Just curious as to why you feel compelled to change your wallpaper in the middle of other tasks.

@blackrorin How much free storage do you have? It sounds like apps are unable to save information to storage when the app is paused or quit. This would definitely cause the app to forget what you were doing the last time you used the app.

I have almost 50 GB of free space, so I don't think the problem is coming from there. Besides, it's always been a problem for me since I bought this phone, but lately it's gotten much worse.
