A Series & Other MobileDoes anyone know why the email app is requiring permissions for music and audio? I don't use earbuds with my tablet. I've used the email app for a long time on my older A50 and it does not require these permissions. But I recently added the email app to my A8 tablet and when I went to reply to an email I got a pop up saying that it required access to the music and audio permissions before it could reply.
Seems onerous and suspect. I don't believe in providing excess permissions to apps, so unless there is an extremely good reason for this app to need access to music and audio simply to reply to a generic email (IE no attachments, etc), I consider this a bug.

A Series & Other MobileIt probably wants those permissions in case you want to send a sound clip and if you want to use Talk to Text to dictate your messages. The email app I use doesn't require those permissions. You might want to consider using a different one if you are not comfortable granting those permissions.

A Series & Other MobileI hear what you're saying, except as noted in my post my A50 phone doesn't require these permissions and I am able to use the app on that device without any issues. And I do use talk to text but I don't use Samsung keyboard, I use gboard which uses Google voice typing.
I'm now afraid to update my A50 because I'm not too crazy about some of these changes on newer Android and Samsung software apps.

A Series & Other MobileOnce again, you can switch mail reader apps. Giving the app permission to access your music and audio is a benign permission, so you can just grant it if you want. You will have no choice but to update the A50 when it's its turn, if it's eligible - and I do not believe it is. It does not matter whether you use Samsung Keyboard, Google Keyboard, Samsung Voice Engine, or Google Voice Engine. The permission is the same.

A Series & Other MobileThe A50 has a different operating system and probably not the same version of the mail app. If you don't want to grant permission, find another email app. There are many out there and all will download your mail. If any app you want to use wants a permission you don't want to give and won't work without that permission, either grant the permission, or find an app that does the same thing that does not require the permission. Your A50 won't have the same issue, as it won't be getting the update - it is not eligible. So, hold onto it if you want to use the older features.

A Series & Other MobileThank you for those comments, I was aware of those options. My initial question was talking about about why does the app need these permissions.

A Series & Other MobileI do not know why the updated version now wants those permissions (assuming it's the same email app). I gave you my best guess. They may have made some "improvements" that now require this permission.
