I have a Samsung Galaxy A32 5G, and one thing I've never liked is how while in a conversation log texting with someone, when there is a new text there is no beep sound. So if I turn away from the phone for a few seconds or long enough that the screen dims and then goes off, I won't know that there was a new text, until I get the screen back on. This can be really annoying sometimes! (and this also was the same with my previous Samsung Galaxy Core Prime phone)

This kind of sound notification while in a conversation log does work in other apps like Messenger, so WHY won't Samsung add it as an optional feature that we can choose to enable or keep disabled by default...???

@Bar_Na If you have Messages open to the chat, and screen is on, you will not get any notifications from that chat. That's just how it works.

Thanks for the reply. I used to think this was a glitch but now I've realized that it is intentional and by default. But my question is WHY doesn't Samsung make that little tiny bit of effort to have this type of in-chat notification sound an optional feature that we can enable if we want, or keep disabled by default. Given that it does exist in fb Messenger (which I do have on my phone and tablet, but don't use as my primary texting app), and probably other messaging apps idk, then clearly the feature exists.

I've never seen it an SMS/MMS app. Probably because it would be so annoying people would complain.

Google Messages features both incoming and outgoing message sounds (a subtle "blip" sound, different from your default notification sound) when a conversation thread is open.

If you are already using Google Messages, make sure this feature is turned on.

If you are not using Google Messages, and this is a crucial feature for you, you may consider making the switch.1758055610700.jpg

@CEParsons Even with that option ON, if Google Messages is open on that thread, and the screen is on, there is no notification sound if a message is received.

I'm sure the logic is "why do you need a notifications sound if you are actively staring at the thread"?

The only reason I find it annoying when in a conversation log and there's a new text is simply when I turn away from the phone before the new text comes in, and then the screen dims and goes off before I look at it again. So I will miss a text in that situation, and then sometimes I won't even see it until later on when I do go back to the phone if I get sidetracked with other things.

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded and tried G Messages but it was not at all that interesting to me to consider using, so I deleted it and continued to use the default Samsung Messages pre-installed on my phone.

@BAR-Na My sister will only text with me via FB messenger; as such, even when the chat is open, I get her sound. I don't pay very much attention to whether I get the assigned sound in G messages because, unless I am actively engaged in the back and forth, I close the chat. On the occasion I have the chat open, there's a very clear and loud "pop' when a text arrives. So, if you need to hear the assigned sound, switch to FB messenger.
