Do we lose all existing chat history after switch to Google?
I tried changing default to Google messages and got a blank screen to start chatting.
I hope this isn't the case. If so, that's absolutely TERRIBLE and totally inconsiderate by Samsung.

You do not lose your existing chat history when switching to Google Messages. Your SMS/MMS messages are stored in a separate database on your phone, and setting Google Messages as the default app allows it to access that data, usually automatically

When you have a large amount of messages, Google Messages can take several minutes to "index" them, appearing blank in the meantime

Wait a few minutes, then restart your phone to allow the database to sync.

I hope your right. This is making me very unsure about switching as I have an older phone.

I can only be sure about my phone and all my friends and family who have Samsung phones. We all use Google Messages.

Why are they forcing us to switch?! I don't like the Google app. They don't have the same functionality! Pinning messages to the top and the categories feature up top to easily find certain messages. I TRULY DESPISE the Google message system

While not currently available, I have observed potential for this functionality in forthcoming updates.
