If I connect a set of wired earbuds with an integrated microphone it doesn't work with the phone app. I can hear the person I am talking with but they cannot hear me, total silence. This appears to be a software issue as the earbud mic works fine with the camera app and voice recorder app.

The phone app doesn't have the option to allow microphone permissions.

If I connect a set of earbuds without an integrated microphone, the phone app works fine using the phone's internal microphone.

I've had this bug for a while. I was hoping it would be fixed with the most recent update but it has not.

Galaxy A15 5G
One UI version 8.0
Android version 16

Edit: I forgot to add I'm using the earbuds with the 3.5mm port on the phone.

How old are the buds?  An older model of the wired buds may not be compatible with your phone.  Are you using a 3.5mm adapter or USB?  If you are using 3.5mm adapter, did you make sure it's the right one for your buds?  Do you have 1, 2 or 3 rings on the plug of the headphones?

Sorry, I forgot to add that I'm using the earbuds with the 3.5mm port on the phone. The earbuds are less than a year old.

This doesn't seem to be a hardware issue. The external microphone works fine with other apps. It seems to be a problem with the default phone app specifically.

I didn't realize any Samsung phones still had an audio jack. Have you tried using another Phone app like Phone by Google? You are not required to use the native phone app. Try an alternate app and see if it works with that.

No I have not used another phone app. I am trying to use the phone I purchased as a phone. It would be nice if I didn't need a workaround, especially since this seems to be a simple software bug.

It's not a workaround. Plenty of people use an alternative phone dialer. If you don't want to, that's fine, but you want to determine if it's an issue with your buds or the phone app, so you try another dialer. For the record, many people prefer Phone by Google for the superior spam control and the fact that they are not accidentally activating the call recorder.  Did you ever download any app to do something your phone didn't do?

If the phone doesn't work as a phone, anything else is a workaround.

It's not an issue with the earbuds, this is the second pair it's happened with. I threw out my previous pair thinking they were bad, and as stated earlier, all the hardware works perfectly on the same phone using other apps.

I find it odd that on the Samsung support website you are recommending ditching stock Samsung software in favor of Google when this should be a priority fix. The phones need to work as phones first and foremost.

Have it your way.  It works as a phone.  A dialer is only a dialer.  It does not matter which one you use. If Phone by Google was installed as the default dialer, you would be using that.  As it is, Samsung has its own dialer, that does not mean you are married to it or required to use it. You want the microphone in your buds to work.  You have the choice to use another dialer, even temporarily to test if it's a problem with the phone dialer itself, since you seem to feel it's not the buds.  If it does not work with the Google dialer, then it something with the device itself and requires you to put in an error report if you'd like the issue addressed.  No error report, no fix.  Sometimes troubleshooting requires one to download a similar app for testing purposes.

I don't work for Samsung, I'm a user just like you.  I can recommend anything I want - even to tell you to buy another brand.  You do realize that Android is a Google owned product, so by having an Android phone, you are using Google products and Samsung relies heavily on the Google backbone.  That is why they have made the default messaging app Google Messages and are sundowning their own messaging app.  But, I suppose you are also one of those who will insist on using Samsung Messages until it no longer works at all, because you don't want to abdicate to Google.

Also, the reason this is not a priority fix, is likely because this is an issue unique to you, and you have not put in an error report.  This is a user to user help site, not Samsung tech support.  If you want an issue addressed by Samsung, you have to actually notify them of the issue through the feedback link in the support tab of the members app.

Are you saying you have never downloaded any app from the Galaxy store or the Play store to do something your phone didn't do?
