Hi everyone,

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my Samsung A54. The "Keep screen on while viewing" feature, which is supposed to keep the screen active when I'm looking at it, isn't working.

Here's what I've observed:

  • The feature is enabled in the display settings.
  • The phone doesn't seem to recognize my face.
  • When I checked the permission manager for the camera, I noticed that no app or service is listed under "Allowed all the time." I suspect the system service responsible for this feature isn't getting the necessary camera permissions.

I've tried basic troubleshooting steps, including restarting the device, but the problem persists.

My questions are:

  1. Does anyone know the specific name of the system service or component on the Samsung A54 that handles the "Keep screen on while viewing" feature and requires camera access?
  2. Is there a way to manually grant this service the necessary camera permissions, or is this a system-level permission that's not user-accessible?
  3. Are there any other troubleshooting steps specific to Samsung devices that might resolve this issue?
  4. Has anyone else with a Samsung A54 run into this problem?

My device details:

  • Model: Samsung A54
  • Android Version: 14
  • One UI Version: 6.1

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Is it always not working, or just at certain times or with certain apps? I have an A54 and I have noticed that keep screen on while viewing works well except under two circumstances (which may actually be the same instance) - when I am watching a short Facebook video and if the room is not well lit. Since I am usually watching this type of video in a dimly lit room, it may actually be more the lighting. If you are viewing your phone in low light, the camera may not properly see your eye movement. This could be compounded if you wear glasses and if you wear tinted glasses, it won't work at all.

It would still work with glasses unless there's a reflection on the glass.  The camera has to see your eye movements, which is why glare on glasses, tinted glasses, sunglasses, dark rooms won't always work so well.

When you are ready for your next pair of glasses, choose anti-reflective lenses and you should have no problem.  In the meantime, try not facing a light source directly and lower the brightness on your screen to minimize glare.
